Hi Guys, A friend of mine had me make him a Porsche 928 Plaque, license plate sized, and I liked it enough to do a couple of Ferrari ones. I also tried a couple with a blackened background using gun bluing. I like the black better, so I think I'll do the rest of mine that way too. I own 5 different pieces from Thor (F430 Coupe steel w/ painted background, F1 steel w/ painted background, monotone and color steel Ferrari shield, and MV Agusta logo. The stuff is awesome. I will post up some pics as soon as I can. In the meantime, buy Thor's stuff, it is impressive. Steve
Amazing how good they look with so few lines! Beautiful as always. I'll definitely buy some of your stuff when I get a Ferrari :
Thanks guys! Steve! It's nice to hear from you, and I'm glad you like your pieces so well. jorge.enzo: I'm keeping the price on these low, $19 US. The set of (5) is $79, buy 4 get one free. Webby: Thanks! It's difficult to use so few lines and maintain the clarity of the image. I learned a few tricks by studying Patrick Nagel's art-deco portraits of women. Eventually I'll do a few women in steel similar to his posters from the 80's, though I think I'll try and do warmer images than he did. His were rather brisk, using mainly white skin and blue tones. I've also thought about doing 3D pyramids, cubes, octahedrons, etc with a different Ferrari on each face. Maybe I'll get some time over Thanksgiving to try it out. Thor
Here's three of the five pieces I have from Thor... Steve Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
WOW, that's all I can say.. WOW! - Get some kind of thing set up, a webshop on F-chat or something so you can sell them. That's amazing. Keep up the good work.
Thanks Jonas! I do have a website set up, but I don't sell enough items to justify paying the monthly advertizing fee for F-Chat. I'm an artist, not a commercial production shop. I have a couple of adds in FerrariAds.com and a link to my website in the very first post of this thread, but I try not to be obnoxious. I need F-Chat to keep my Mondial running. Thor
glad you liked them.. i was especially fond of the F1. The F430 took quite a bit of effort to get the colours right, and in the right areas. I have my photoshop prints with the illustrator file i drew to guesstimate where the metal will be and go from there. Again... thankyou. Nice to see them hanging and being enjoyed... GT
HOLY COW! Grant, that is absolutly breathtaking!!! The metal and the abstract canvas (oil or acrylic, I forget) is genius. A great merging of talents, to be sure. So, the metal is Adobe Illustrator (mac or PC? - just curious) then Thor cuts it out and mounts it on your canvas? Where does Photoshop come into play? WOW. Talent to no end. F. also: asked this before, but i remember you used to draw Ferrari subjects on your whiteboard at work. Anything to blow-us-away-with on it now?
Thank you Frank. Your kind words from you, and others, keep me going. And my unstoppable passion for Ferrari of course... Thor and I have come up with something truly unique. There is very little Ferrari abstract Art out there and i "appreciate your appreciation" of it. Thank YOU. They and my other works are a labour of love. My love of producing Art in a variety of concepts and mediums and of Ferrari. The two combine rather rather well... My use of Photoshop in the process is towards the end and is purley for "visualization" purposes. Adobe Illustrator (on a Mac) is used to produce the vector art file that Thor's plasma cutter reads to cut the metal. I make numerous laser-prints of the file and conceputalize the background, trying various ideas using markers, coloured pencils or whatever... Once i decide on an idea, i mix copious amounts of paint in the colours desired and on stretched canvas produce the background artwork. Photoshop comes in when i take a digital photo of the canvas-Art and import the Illustrator file, sizing it to the canvas. The white shapes are dropped out, revealing the colours behind. This gives me a visual representation of the finished piece (att.). At this point i decide if the Canvas is a go as is, if additional colour is required in a certain area or if a second attempt is required (it happens... i dont want to send ANYONE a piece i, myself, am not happy with!) The finished canvas gets sent to Thor who, with the addition of metal frame around the cuttout attaches his fabulous metal-cutting to the canvas-art. voila... kinda long, but i hope that answers your inquiry... as for the whiteboard.. i currently have an old F1 car. A rear view taken close to the carbs looking by the roll bar seeing the steering wheel... i'll take a pic of it tomorrow... GT Image Unavailable, Please Login
WOW, Thanks for the detailed responce Grant. Quite a system you have going there. I see where Photoshop comes in. Gosh, your "visualization" of the finished piece is spot on. Lines up with what Steve ended up getting perfectly. Great work, both of you. Looking forward to that F1 car. Maybe we should resurrect that old whiteboard thread if we can, so as not to hijack Thor's thread here, eh? F.
