Posted this elsewhere, but buried in a thread...

One of my brass bleed screws on the testarossa thermostat housing cracked off, and I want to replace it. Is steel or stainless steel ok? I would presume that brass is more corrosion resistant. But, the bleed screw in the radiator cross over which is aluminum, is steel. So, why not steel in the thermostat housing? I really don't want to risk cracking another brass screw...it was a huge PIA to change....

    So, is steel OK?

Stainless would probably be okay, but brass really shouldnt be a problem unless it was overtorqued. Its supposed to only be tighted with finger pressure, someone probably used a pliers and overstressed it, or possibly turned it the wrong direction with pliers to loosen it, but instead tightened it and it it may have been weak. I would stick with brass myself.

Stainless would be much harder to remove if it ever broke again.

Brass is a good choice of materials, as with all things Ferrari, just be careful. ;)
