Does anyone have the specifications for the U joint splines (so I can seek an entire assembly) or for a replacement U joint (spider assembly only)? I have definite and annoying play in mine. I'm really choking on the cost of a new joint or replacement parts here. It just needs a small U joint, which can't cost $300.

I don't mind spending $$$ when there is no alternative, but this seems to be one of those times where there must be an alternative out there.

As I stated in my original post there is play in the u joint which is significant enough to be noticed when driving, especially when going through tighter switchback corners. I.e. when quickly going from loaded steering in one direction to loaded in the other direction.

How certain are you that the play is in the U and not somewhere else in the steering linkage? I’m asking not arguing here.

Very certain. I went through the system checking via touch and vision at all possible locations, while rocking the steering wheel, working from the tie rod ends to the rack (both of which are new, along with steering rack mounts, btw) and all connection points, then into the interior/steering rack area. The lost motion at the lower u joint is quite visible. Total motion at the steering wheel rim is about 3/8", perhaps a bit more.
