Hi all, There’s a small amount of play in my column. I have already replaced the rack and tie rod ends. I found my play was between the steering wheel shaft and the shaft below the upper u joint. The tapered pins on either side of that u joint were tightened and that reduced my play to about 1/2 what it was. Last bit seems to be in the joint itself. There are few photos online but mine does not look like the couple I’ve seen or what is drawn in the parts diagram. What I’ve seen looks like what is in this post: https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/threads/308-steering-linkage.493517/ Where mine does not seem to have bearings… hopefully the pic uploads. Are there aftermarket u joints that will work? Can I just remove the nuts on the tapered pins and drive them out and replace or is lots of column disassembly in my future if I decide to go down this path? Also I should note that the large nut further down where the upper column connects to the lower column is crazy tight. Just for sanity's sake... to loosen which way does it go? It "seems" like it should go counter clockwise looking at it from the seats position but with a slip fit I want to make sure. Thanks, Jay Image Unavailable, Please Login
Here is an ebay listing for a column that shows another type of upper u-joint. https://www.ebay.com/itm/334740974157?chn=ps&norover=1&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-166974-028196-7&mkcid=2&mkscid=101&itemid=334740974157&targetid=2304343365564&device=c&mktype=pla&googleloc=9031042&poi=&campaignid=21765648636&mkgroupid=169169032318&rlsatarget=pla-2304343365564&abcId=10047218&merchantid=113358744&geoid=9031042&gad_source=1&gclid=Cj0KCQiA0fu5BhDQARIsAMXUBOK5Olbh-2F0wS3wtQqE-sCyD-z23eouca_QqiRla3IXi5JxolGvKP0aAuv-EALw_wcB A) Curious if others have seen u-joints like what I have in the car and B) the Big nut on the column slip joint looks like its been peened into place in this listing, as does mine in my car. Is there a way to undo that as I've tried everything but can't get that nut to budge with the limited space and leverage I can muster on a stubby wrench. Thanks, Jay
