I want to refurbish my LHD steering rack and I see that new original ones are available from Superformance at around £400 ($550). Has anyone any experience of these racks, are they the same as original?

They also offer a 'fast' rack with 2.5 turns lock-to-lock at a slightly cheaper price. What is the general opinion on these. I do not intend to use the car on the track and I am concerned that this fast rack might ruin the steering on the road.

    Any advice welcome.

I fitted a fast rack from superformance. it is heavy when parking etc but is fantastic all the rest of the time - if you like throwing your car around. if you don't go in for really throwing it round corners I'd say you don't need it.

Thanks Nick. Your comments on the fast rack are pretty much as I expected which is why I don't really want to take this option, plus the originality question of course.

    Hi Simon

I would agree entirely with Nick, it is very nice when on the move but very heavy at slow speeds. I took my rack off in the end and replaced it with a new one from SF, all OK and pretty much identical to the original.

If you decide to do this, don't throw away the blue plastic plug on the oil fill, new ones do not come with them...or at least mine didn't.

If you want muscles like Popeye fit the fast rack;-)
