Hey guys, When I got my 308 GTB 1976 Vetroresina from US, it was mounted this steering wheel. I have learned it's not from a 308 GTB - do you know from which car ? Thanks MO Image Unavailable, Please Login
I have seen these steering wheels on 2V injected 308's however I cannot exactly confirm the years when this wheel would have been OEM.
Earlier cars should be silver, Superformance has a nice repro... All the new OEM stock is gone but there's a few around I'm sure..... There was another thread, where a Euro repair shop taunted us with one....
Is it worth it to restore a sterring wheel with new leather or simply buy a replacement? If so, are there any companies that specialize in this?
This is a Nardi, standard on all US and R.O.W market 308 2v's(1980-1982).It should have a replica of Nardi's signature on it and was also used on the early Mondial 8 3.0 litre cars! The wheel boss does not fit a Momo steering wheel that was used on later 308 QV'S and Mondials and 328's!! Hope this helps Cheers Pete
do not forget it was also used on the 512BB injected cars also seen on the 400 injected cars. so i think it's safe to say the where used on all of the injected Ferrari's (from 1980-83) as for the one in the 2nd picture; indeed a Mondial / 400i (2nd serie) /412/ Testarossa steeringwheel (and a Testarossa is a flat /boxer 12cyl not V12 )
Indeed correct on all accounts Mr Racing Baker (Don't know why I wrote V12 for the TR!)and yes these wheels were used on the 512bb and bbi and 400/412i series, although they didn't automatically spring into my mind as I am a 3x8 series man! Cheers Pete
you are forgiven aldo not used on the 512BB!! only the injected models. carb BB's, carb 400's and carb 308's share the "steel" one. (my dad has a 1982 512BBi, 400GT and a Mondial QV and i myself have a carb 308; that is how i know )
That's what I was told. The wheel was for a TR. My papers show that the wheel was replaced because there was a rip in the one on the car when it went to the original dealer after it came off the boat. I have all the history from new. Even what pier and boat it was on. Wheel was not replaced since then. Interesting. Thanks for the reply.
When my 308 was restored the owner did two 308 and a TR at the same time. I am wondering if the wheel was mixed up with the TR, they did this on purpose, or just replaced the wheel with a new TR. I am still trying to get in touch with the owner of the three at that time. Thanks for the reply.
The wheel is stamped MOMO on the bottom of the center spoke in the front. I don't think it came new with that type of wheel. It looks OK and with a large horse on the horn button. I don't plan to change it at this time. There are also some small diff from other 1980 308s. There is no 308 GTBi emblems. Just GTB. By the ID number it looks like it was one of the first FI cars. Not many FI GTBs built in 1980. I'm still digging into the cars past.
