Imho, the best way , for low wear areas, is a product or products obtainable at automotive paint supply stores. We have used these solvent based products formulated especially for interior products and have seen them hold up well, so so on seats tho. proper prep is the most important step, cleaning with wax and grease remover and then using steel wool . they are spray only , and only a very thin coat produces the best , flexible result. napa /martin senour is one source , and I believe DuPont also . the napa can in the pic , where the paint run is obscuring , I believe says tcc or tec system.we used this on a mustang interior, the white panels just looked dingy , and this made it all look new , but for the seats , there was no choice other than reupholster.
This type of product would the closest to what is used in the original manufacturing process.

    Not only about the look.
The feel and smell change with spraying dye.
Maybe fine for small non wearing pieces...but the whole interior?
    Not for me....
