is every control and button on the 458 Italia's steering wheel lighted? also another dumb question, I know the 458's dash is leather but what is under the leather? Soft touch plastic or hard plastic? I ask because I saw a rosso mugello 458 at a nearby dealer and I am VERY tempted....
No the entire steering wheel isn't lit, the high beam for one is not lit but not a problem at all. I'm not sure what's under the leather, just call your local dealer and ask someone in the service dept. if you need to know.
The steering wheel of the 458 has lots of control and after 1 yr of ownership, i still cannot remember where the wiper control is. I don't like the fact that they have so many controls on it. While i don't like the steering wheel, i still think the 458 is a great car. My advice is go get one.
Agreed. The steering wheel is one of those quirky Italian ideas that seems like it could make sense but doesn't quite work. But as an issue it pales compared to the overall brilliance of the car. Get one if you can, and don't worry about what is under the leather; worry about finding a leather color scheme you really like.
I did read in one of the mag's this month that all the new (2012's?) 458's will have backlit steering wheel controls. It seems odd to be so excited and tempted over a $300k car yet worried about steering wheel lighting and what substructure the dash is comprised of. They would be #278 and #4115 respectively on my list of concerns.
