For a long time it has been a rumour that the steeringear from a Mini should fit a Dino without any major changes. Both came from Camgear in UK.

The upper one on the picture is the Dino gear and the lower one from a 60's Mini, they look rather similar. I haven't tried, but a RHD Mini gearshould fit a LHD Dino, just need an adapter lengthening the steeringarms before they go onto the trackrod ends (same as Mini!). I saw one steering gear coming from Superformance with adaptors.......... A Mini gear can be bought new for under £100.

    Anybody tried this?

My mechanic told me the same story. He also said the same steering rack is used in early Ford escorts.
I couldn't find anyone to verify this.

I have heard the escort/cortina steering rack "story" as well.
