Ian, correction, no Messi in this game - he is down the road watching with Neymar I do like F Torres resurgence with Atletico and am giving them the nod over Real, with Torres form leading to a decisive goal. Ok back to bball
Oops! Sorry! My bad :embarrassed: Getting my Madrids & Barcelona's mixed up..... Should still be an epic match though... Cheers, Ian
comparison should be for all time point guard season. mj, LeBron, different positions from curry curry now or maybe magic in 87? anyone others?
Yes, Steve Nash was a great player. Just as Curry, Nash was also a 2 time MVP in the NBA. In fact you may see a little bit of Nash's style in the way that Curry uses the screen roll, as Nash works for the Golden State Warriors in player development. Any great organization or business strives to hire the best to maintain their competitive edge.
That's a good explanation Curry looks like a 15 year old choir boy Jordan was a cold blooded assassin
MJ was a dominant force who had the. Size speed and jumping ability to frustrate most defensive guards into not giving him the edge and to "give up" the outside shot as your best option or the lesser of evils to best guard him for the team. The Pistons developed the "Jordan Rules" to Rey and frustrate Jordan by being physical and having an strong inside presence that often included double and triple teaming MJ and giving him the long shot. It was quite effective for a few years and then MJ worked tirelessly and started to develop a very consistent fade away jumper-adapting and adding to his game where he became almost impossible to stop. The fadeaway jumper was his money shot in the later parts of his career. MJ worked the conventional in his first few years in the league, Curry was a good 3 point shooter and great free throw shooter who was often plagued by ankle injuries his first couple of years in the league, supplemented by playing second fiddle with his ex teammate, thought to be franchise player, Monte Ellis-who was a physically gifted small shooting guard, who often hogged the ball and limited Steph's touches and ability to develop. The Ellis/Curry combination really never worked under previous Cohan ownership and when ownership changed to Lacob, things went another direction and in combination with some off the court antics, Ellis was sent packing. When Steph became healthy, he worked tirelessly to become a dominant shooter, dominant 3 point shooter, and in conjunction with new draft editions of Thompson, Green, Barnes- other mid and inside he paint options developed. The Dubs began to win consistently forcing teams to expand their defensive coverage-as it was readily apparent that Curry's first option was shooting the 3. curry worked tirelessly to expand his 3 ball range to parameters that were very unconventional, He also greatly improved his ball handling skills and now give more space-his driving into the paint-scoring. In contrast to MJ, He effectively has worked from the outside-in to develop his game to be unstoppable. The threat of Curry has opened up the floor for his teammates to have a lot of space to where they can seemingly score at will. Both MJ and Curry became untoppable forces, both have made their teammates better as the Bulls won 72 games and Warriors 73 games in a season. Both have had championship seasons. What makes Curry's development of the game intriguing is his first option is his technique relies more behind the line and 3 point field goals are worth more than a fadeaway, layup or dunk. If behind by 10 or more the Warriors can make a run and in the next minute they are up by 10 points. This style of play, I my opinion is very entertaining to watch. I have no idea why some people claim that the Warriors style is bad for the game...
biggest difference to me between players like mj or LeBron and curry is how they impact their teammates. I feel mj and LeBron's teammates were actually afraid of them. crazy guys like rodman and jr smith would be on their best behaviors around mj and LeBron. curry is blessed to have first rate teammates so far, but I don't think a guy like rodman would stay in line for him like he did with mj.
You are probably right about this...Curry is a more "lead by example" type of guy. The enforcer and emotional leader of the Dubs is Draymond Green-He could probably keep Rodman in line or kick him Off the team.
Again, great thread & insights guys, thanks! Another thing that jumps out at me with the Warriors right now is they seem to be having fun & really, truly, enjoying each other. Sure, having fun is a lot easier when you're kicking everyone's ass, but in my limited experience I never got the same feeling from the Bulls - Comments? Cheers, Ian
Agreed. mj and bulls were about destroying you, not having fun. Thats just reflection of mj vs currys personalities I think lebron lacks the fun factor esp back in Cleveland. Ring is only thing for him which makes it hard to have fun. Mj didnt need or want fun but I think lebron does. The expectations put on him by media is too heavy load for him. I root for him but think hes going to fall short again
Okc vs w could be most entertaining series ever. So much skill. Just wish it wasnt west coast time. Okc needs to slow down the pace. No way can they win shoot outs with gsw. Surprised donavan doesnt stop them from all the end to end passes. Need to get kd in post ups like lebron did in finals last yr and ty win slug fest and anyone who says curry is just a shooter doesnt know bball. Miller, ray allen were shooters. They ran around screens, got passes, and shot. Curry creates his own shots off dribble with moves. He has best handle in game. None of the other great shooters had those skills. Then add in his 10 extra feet of range...
I've heard that a lot. Experienced it when back there too - You've gotta be a *serious* fan to watch these guys back there. A shame, but I have no idea how you fix it without the DVR, which just isn't the same..... Also a reason why few left coast guys (outside Steph!) get 'respect' from the East coast journo's - they're all drunk in the bar by the time 'our' guys play! Not gonna comment yet - I've asked the mods to put 'spoilers' in the title just in case...... Cheers, Ian
Dunno if anyone not local can get it, but CSNBA is airing a Steph highlight show right now - Fantastic stuff! Cheers, Ian
It's insane! Hopefully it'll show up online soon. To return to the OP, it may not be the greatest season of all time, but I have no doubt it's the greatest example of shooting ever seen. With all due respect to the other 'legends', nobody in the history of the game has shot like this guy! Cheers, Ian
Tough game for Steph today...OKC played the card of selling out to not let Curry get any open shots, sacrificing all other options to not allow Steph to get any easy 3's. The dubs did pretty well with supplemental scoring from the others through 3 quarters of play. The Thunder played great defense on Curry forcing 7 turnovers off of many of His passes after he passed up a contested and often double teamed 3 attempt. The Warriors want 1/11 in 3 point shooting in the 4th quarter, dooming their chances of winning game 1. It will be interesting to see what adjustments will be made by Kerr. The loss of Bogut was definitely felt on the offensive rebounds, defensive rebounds, rim protecting against he thunder bugs and even the normal screens that Bogut often sets for Curry. Hopefully he makes it back into the fray...the series is on...
^^ Agreed. Pretty much my take too. I, (and I think they), believed they'd be just fine down the stretch - It's been that way all season after all! Maybe a little bit of a wake up call? Way too many turnovers tonight. If anyone can fix it, I think Mr Kerr can. Hopefully Andrew will be OK. Cheers, Ian
this could be a big one for okc. they lost so many late leads during season that they really needed a confidence boost like this one. I would be afraid of westbrook and kd when they are confident. just hope its a long series.
