My stereo stopped working in my 1975 Dino 308 GT4. Anyone know how to remove it? It appears as though I have to take out the entire center console all the way back to the back seats.
    Thanks,
    Brian

What type of stereo are we talking about here? You shouldn't need to remove the console to get it out. Is the radio the old 2 knob type or a newer deck with 1 knob or maybe no knobs at all. Usually the deck will slide into a sleeve and lock somehow on newer radios. If you can tell me what kind of deck it is I should be able to walk you through it.

After receiving a PM from Brian it turns out he has a older 2 knob radio. This might be easy or it could be as hard as you 1st talked about. The radio is held in by two nuts on the knob shafts and possibly a strap in the back of the unit (which I doubt). Just pull the knobs off then loosen the nuts around the shaft and after you have those off you should be able to remove the plate that holds the deck in. Keep in mind that after removing the plate if the console has 2 holes and the rectangle (main face to the deck) built in then you will need to remove the deck from behind (worse case for you) and you will need to find out how to get behind the console.

    Hope this helps a little.

My Alpine radio just drops in. But I have no idea if this is how it was intended to be or just how some PO installed the thing.

Public service notice to all Ferrari owners: Please post your question on this amazing site before removing parts and making dangerous assumptions... like I did. I will now be putting my dash back together after realizing the simple answer was only minutes away on ferrarichat.com.

Thanks a million Enzo and gerritv for your help and to everyone else for my future stupid questions.

    :)

That's great that you got it out. Were you able to just pull it out after taking off the nuts that holds the shafts?

Stereo in a GT4 means lowering BOTH windows!

I had planned to replace the orignal stereo on my '75 dino 308 GT4 with a new one, but on this car with original leather interior, original paint, original everything, I really wanted to fix the existing Blaupunkt. When I took the knobs off I found the dash had been cut with 2 holes for knobs and center hole. I had to pull it out htru the back. I found that the fuse was still good, but the plastic fuse case was broken. I replaced the fuse case and slid the stereo back in from under the dash. All is good and still original.
    Thanks,
    Brian

pics of the car are on my family personal site on www.bhappie.com/crazypeople

    Brian,
You have a VERY nice GT4. I am a little confused when you say that you r/r the radio from "under the dash" since they are in the console. Does this mean that you removed the short section of the console "under the dash" and pulled the radio out from under the main section of the console?
The radios were a dealer (importer?) installed option on these cars and sometimes the installation was somewhat of a hack job. "stereo upgrades" through the chain of owners were often even worse.
