Thanks - an interesting idea. I don't care that much about the CD changer once I have an iPod although I guess the sound is better from a CD. My car is at dealer now. Will get it back at the end of the week and will let you know the serial number.

I don't need your serial number, what I meant was that if the Becker model number is higher that 7XXX an Ipod interface with full functionality is available, otherwise its just charging and audio. Charging is not available with Nano 4G

Can all this help for my 05 612 with a Becker unit and CD changer?

I finally finished my project, now I can toggle between the Ipod and the CD changer with the unused rear fog light switch on the dash.

Only thing is I have to cycle the radio off and back on to get it to recognize the CD changer, why that is I don't understand, if I don't cycle the radio it does it itself in about 5 minutes.... Bizarre.

My model number is Becker BE7860. If it is of any relevance, my serial number is 20027496. My car is a 2004 575HGTC.

Something very funny on page 93 of the owner's manual for the stereo, Sockets C2 and C3 have specified pins for "special connection for Porsche CD changer". Someone in Italy failed on the global "search and replace" when finalising the manual!!!

I think the BE7860 is the Becker Silverstone CD Changer unit and the Radio Head is possibly the BE6104. Not sure which needs to be the 7XXX number to use the new er Becker iPod Interface.

Brief question not really worthy of its own thread :

Using a basic ipod cable in the back of an original Becker 4372 are there any easy / recommended places on a 575 to connect the power & earth (+/-) leads to facilitate charging ?

The charging wire are in the basic cable, just plug it in the back of the Becker where the CD player connector was. It will charge even with the key off.

Thanks rapid reply but I may not have described my cable fully - it has the block to go on the back of the Becker but only for the sound signal but two loose wires for the charging (unlike for example the much more expensive cable mentioned elsewhere that does include the power supply) hence the query for suggestions of where to pick up the power & earth

Need some more info. What color are the blocks you have?

The blue connector with three wires is the audio connection, the green connector with two wires is the power 12V +&-

Do the two wires you have have ends crimped on? If so I might have a green connector you could use, just push your wires in if they have ends crimped on.

BTW, the connectors are all different and will only fit in the Becker the correct way round.

This is the cable you want, $65 on eBay from Beckerautosoumd

OK...In the mess of wires going to the radio there is a black plastic two wire connector about a quarter inch square, maybe an inch long, with red and black wires. Its the only loom that has only two wires.

Just tap into those two wires matching colors, but first, and very important, check them with a meter or test light.

They should be Red, always hot and Black, ground.

I'm almost positive that they are red and black, but it may be red with a black tracer and black.

That should do it for you

I have just fitted the Beckerautosound cable and am absolutely happy. Hasslefree. Once I programmed playlists into my iPod the lack of control from the headunit is no big deal.

I got my Beckerautosound cable yesterday and fitted it last night. Very easy, using the Becker keys to remove the radio then just plugged cable in and set AUX input to "on" in the Radio programming section.
Currently the cable comes out from the front under the dashboard, but ultimately want it to come out of the back of tunnel. I understand DM did his that way but needs trim removing to thread through.
I will leave that sort of work for when it goes in for next service.
Meantime, very happy with the way my iPod works through the BE 6104 Radio Head and this new cable.

    HI Dennis,

it is pin 5 on the power plug... I have to correct this problem all the time! Be careful who does your install. The other common problem is a bad antenna adapter cable... @ 15% failure rate...
