6.5” is the stock size it’s my understanding. I’m looking at a Kenwood unit that has 6.8, and there’s also one that has 6.9. I would like for this thing to fit into the dash cleanly and not have any floating sensation. Does anybody know whether either of these two measurements will allow that?

I’m wanting wireless Apple CarPlay, and that appears to only come on the 6.95 size screens.

I just had Car Tunes Atlanta upgrade the audio system on our 2014 FF. Components include:

Sound is phenomenal, and Emran was the consummate professional. Thanks to the OP, ttforcefed, and Caeruleus11 for the inspiration and advice.

Got a great video but not sure how to post it.

Looks awesome Bundy. Thank you for documenting the components with the photos. I’m guessing that the key to good sound quality is the DSP in the amp? Did your installer have a view on the relative merits of each of the component upgrades?

Thank you, ANOpax. Car Tunes disconnected the relatively cheap “filler” mid front and high rear soundstage speakers shown below. With the high-quality Focal Kevlar speakers and tuning, Emran felt they weren’t necessary.

The 12-channel Helix amp allowed one unit to power all speakers, including the sub. The Kenwood Excelon head unit is apparently highly regarded and was available. Supply chain constraints are sadly pervasive in the car audio ecosystem.

The original 4 ohm sub wasn’t providing the bass they had hoped for so they switched to a 2 ohm model. I wanted the entire upgrade to be as stealthy as possible which meant they needed to find a subwoofer speaker that could fit in the area of the original factory sub.

Added discrete, built-in ALP radar and laser protection, too. Laser systems are legal in Arizona and Kentucky where we live. Automatically turns off after 7 seconds to allow an officer to get a read.

Jealous of that radar and laser protection. Where i live, you go to jail and lose your drivers license forever, if you install sth. like that in your car…

Hey! I was wondering how easy/difficult was it to remove the trim for the B Pillar? I would
Love some specifics on how you did that. My speaker that’s by my left ear has been making an awful static noise so it is in need of some attention!

Germany. But jk. It’s about 75€ and you could loose you license for a month if you did sth. forbidden in the past.

Only our police will search every orifice of your car and body if they find such a device :p

Can anyone provide advice on removing the B pillar trim to get to the EDPL speaker? Order of operations, tips and tricks? My speaker is making a terrible static noise, and I need to check it out to see if the wire is loose or if I have a bigger issue going. Thanks

Great to read your experience. Audio on the stock unit is underwhelming so this is on my list of things to get done.

Just confirming that only the head unit was changed and the speakers were left as-is. Did your FF have the upgraded audio as a factory option?

Yep-just head unit (and Sirius receiver and the wheel controls). No amp, no speakers, and works with the factory speakers fine. Yes I do have the upgraded system and yes it works with it and the side speakers (I checked, ha)
