I have a new-to-me 430 that has had an Alpine system installed at some time in the past. It has the upgraded factory sub woofer. The head unit powers up no problem, when you put in a CD you can tell it is working correctly, but no sound from any speaker no matter the source. The problem is I live 100 miles from any metropolitan area, i.e.: anyone who has ever seen a Ferrari much less tracked down a stereo problem in one. I am understandably very hesitant to take it to just any stereo shop and would love to find what I am sure is a simple problem and fix it myself. Any ideas where to start and what to look for? Thanks.

Please clarify... only the CD player lacks audio? AM/FM radio is OK?

    Or no audio at all?

Check the head unit's wiring connectors.. could be the plug linking all the audio signals is disconnected.

I'm not sure whether it is possible to look under the dash or whether the head unit has to be pulled. You have the puller tools, right?

I had a similar problem with my 360. It turned out to be the drivers door speaker shorting to ground. Apparently if a ground is detected by the amp, the radio will shut the amps down to prevent any damage to the radio.

Thanks, I don't have any sound at all....AM/FM CD, doesn't matter. I don't have any puller tools but maybe I can get under the dash to make sure everything is plugged in. I had someone else also tell me that if 1 wire to any of the speakers is shorting out then I would get no sound. What a pain trying to find that.

I would focus on the door panel speakers. Easy enough to do. Pull the trim on the door panel. Unplug each speaker and see if you get sound. I would draft with the drivers door because it's always getting open and closed.

When you turn the volume up, do you hear more static or do you hear no change?

Do you have the HIFI option with the amp mounted under the dash. Mine was doing nearly the same thing and it turned out to be my amp was shot (Be sure to check the fuse first on the amp). I replaced it and it started working right away.

If no HIFI option, is there an aftermarket amp mounted somewhere in the cabin or in the trunk? If so, check the fuse. Could be that easy.

When I turn the volume up I continue to get nothing but silence, no static, nothing. I do have the HIFI option with the amp under the dash. Thanks 911, I'll track down the fuse first and check that.
