I have a 81 308 GTSi and it still has the original Blaupunkt radio and speakers. It sounds horrible and I want to replace it with a new radio CD changer. Will most stereos fit and is there anything I should be looking for when i have it installed.

Use the SEARCH feature in the menu bar above (on the left side) for "308 stereo" in both the current FChat and also the "Old FChat Archives" and you'll find many more. Here's another: http://70.85.40.84/~ferrari/discus/messages/251280/235872.html
Almost any stereo will fit into that dash opening, make sure you get a really good set of speakers installed, they will make or break the sound. Almost all CD players will sound the same until you spend $2K plus on one.
The Alpine of the era was an option on the Ferrari and thus is "original". My car is a 1980 308 GTSi and has the optional Alpine. The cassette player in the Alpine is really pretty good even by today's standards. I have an ipod with 1,000 of my favorite songs and the ipod/cassette adapter which allows me to play the ipod through the Alpine and it sounds great! I have every song I could ever wish to have and it is original. A solution for you might be to buy one of these Alpines from that era. PArt of the problem may be your speakers?? The speakers are easily replaced.... If interested, let me know and I will send you a picture and the model specs on my radio. I know that it is correct because I have the options list for my car and it shows that it came with the Alpine brand new from Ferrari of Houston in 1980.
That's what I did but with a dealer installed Blaupunkt circa 1981. It has modern component speakers, 850 watt amp and 10 disc CD changer but you would never know it to look at it. The speakers are the trick. I settled on components that would handle 100 watts RMS. I feed them with the full amount so I can hear it on the highway with the top out - which you can loud and clear. The CD is FM modulated. It all sits on my spare tire. That amp requires a 1 guage wire (yes I said one) But it is plenty powerful. All that and the looks of a bone-stock radio on the inside. I like it.
I agree Gatsby! The radio is hardly a consideration for me... A Ferrari is the only car that when the radio is broken, you don't care that much!
I recently read an article on the Enzo wondering why Ferrari even equpped the enzo with a stereo as a informal poll of many enzo owners never turned on the stereo ( but then again, I guess many don't even drive them either!) I also found on the internet some guy that buys period correct in dash heads like blaupunkt and refts the guts with all modern electronics so it looks stock but preforms modern... I think the porsche guys were big customers of his.
I like the engine note too but there is certainly nothing wrong with a little music as well. Around town I don't play the stereo much but for those frequent trips to Atlanta (about 4 hrs round trip from my house) or to the beach, the radio is nice company also.
I agree. I enjoy the sound of the engine....for a while. But on the highway? Roll the windows up, put on the A/C, crank some AC/DC and let her rip. The right music enhances the driving experience. Birdman
These cars have AC too? There's AC and a stereo radio, I thought it was topless car with dual exhaust Wow I got a better deal than I thought,
I keep my A/c in a cardboard box, I saw it last weekend... I did fit a new Blaupunkt CD in, with a sawzall (new dash opening required) but it glows like jukebox at night if I forget to remove detachable faceplate.. New speakers are a must....I'm going to try the two element crossover ones next.......
My AC blower either goes really slow or really fast. When I want air to blow cold, it makes so much noise it drowns out the stereo and the most of the engine noise. Of course, when the heat starts radiating up from the floor boards, the heat cancels out the AC. So I have to take the top off to keep from baking....but then I want to listen to music....but that damn engine noise is in the way.....darn. I don't know what to do........it's the endless loop from luxury hell. So I just drive. I know its a radical thought.....but what the hey.
...hmmmm, lots of wear on the gas and clutch.....but almost no wear on the brakes........is that you MS?
