I am upgrading my stereo system with the following items. I will post a series of pictures tomorrow. I have run all new wires from the battery to the amps in the front trunk, to the cross-overs then back through the fire wall to the door jams and sub. Here is my problem. For those of you with and upgraded stereo how did you go through the door jam to get to the speakers in the doors? Or did you re-use the old 18ga wire and door jam connector?

    Alpine PDX2.150

    Pioneer IPOD CD-IB100ii
    MB Quart 6.5" Components
    JL 10W3 Sub

    Thanks for the help.

You can still use the OEM wires or use it as a fish wire to install the new ones.
You mentioned that you are installing amps at the front trunk, whatever you do, do not put the amp power wire together with the audio RCA and speakers wires. If you fail to do this you will end up with a engine noise on the system which is a reL pain on the as*!

    Good luck!

I'm looking forward to seeing the pictures, I've been thinking about adding a sub to my system for a while now. This JL sub you've got; where have you put it and what's the air space in the box? I remember having an Infinity Perfect 10" a while back and it only needed 1 cubic foot ported, but it was still a massive box and pretty heavy.

You need to use the stock wires going into the doors as there are special connectors that unplug from the door so pulling new wires through is not going to happen. Then you will need to install the crossovers for the door speakers in the doors as there are only 1 pair of wires going into each door.

Here are some of the pictures. I have spent a ton of time setting up the wiring and making sure not to have any wires rubbing or chaffing during this process. I spent the time and re-wire tied the factory wiring where needed. You will spent a lot of time in tough positions up under the dash.

It is really important to keep the power wires away from the RCA cables and to make sure that you properly ground everything seperately. I am using 4ga power and ground wire. The speakers are 14ga. The wiring going to the radio is heat shrinked and then wire tied. I have added additional ground wires to ground the RCA's. The Pioneer is known to have engine noise if you do not. I also added an IPOD adapter in the center console. I did not want to see the IPOD so I will mill out a custom holder and put it behind the seat so that I can still control it if I desire.

I also made my own driverside foot rest, shift paddles, a really nice Roll Bar and a bunch of other items.

Here is how I mounted the tweeters and the cross-overs in the door panel. I used a milling center to make the tweeters fit tight in the original plastic housings and I made aluminum brackets to hold in the cross-over. I ended up having to remove the nice baffle that covered the speaker when I installed it to make it fit. The new speakers were a little deeper then the original junk ones.

Good looking work - well done and do post more. I appreciate the issues in terms of wires to the door speakers but think I'd be inclined to rewire with heavier gauge as the stock system isn't up to much and would benefit from a rewire.

Hey man, could you please post details on that mod? I was appalled to see that POS of a rubber dead pedal on a freaking $200K+ car. And the POS is GLUED, not even screwed. It was just hanging from a square inch area of glue on top. And I know why: every time you release the clutch, your foot catches it. I reglued it, but want something more worthy of this car in its place.

I guess we could order something from ultimatepedals.com, but your job looks more than factory than those, which is exactly what I'd like. My other question is what's behind that area, since you definitely have to drill there to attach a new dead pedal. Thanks man. Was going to PM you, but figure it's better to share with the rest of the gang. Take care.

I made my own pedal setup it was a little time consuming to make the first one a good one but after I made the template and figured out how to mount it if was easy. Behind that piece of carpet is a structural aluinum frame. You have plenty of space. If you look inside of a Challenge car you will see what I mean. All the electrical is up high under the dashboard, I too was worried about that also. So what I did was remove the rubber dead pedal, I put mounting holes in my pedal setup and then marked the holes on the existing factory plate. I tapped them in using 8-32 (1/2" long) and installed using stainless steel cap screws.

I was really happy with the end result. I put a nice piece of aluminum behind the holes to give it a better look and then I painted it clear. Let me know if you have anyother questions or if you want one. I am sure that I could make you one. I also made my own paddle shifters. I refused to pay $700.00 for something that I could do. Once I have figured out what one works best on the street / track I am going to make a mold and made them out of carbon.
