I know that the best stereo is under the hood. This new to me 348 Spider has an Alpine 7618 stereo with a cd changer and a big A#@ amp. It works like crap. I'm thinking of getting rid of it and putting in a decent Stereo that is ipod ready and forget the cd junk. All I need is the radio and ipod. Any ideas on what is a great choice?

Alpine is a very worthy brand - one of the best, in my opinion, for headunits. If you want to have it torn out, do so yourself thoroughly and with caution, or have it done by a professional. There's no telling *what* kind of wiring nightmare is lurking behind the dash and in your doors (to the speakers, amp, etc.). Having a new one installed - properly - sounds like a fine idea, but just see that it's done right.

Sorry...forgot to mention - check the SoCal section (I assume that's San Clemete, no?) for recommendations on a decent car audio shop that "speaks Ferrari."

Im thinking of putting a JVC KD-ADV6160 in mine. It plays MP3s that are burnt onto DVDs (A few DL DVDs will hold my entire music collection). Cheapest Ive seen for them is about $250.

Just yesterday (Sunday) I took the radio out of the 308 and put a flat black plate I got from the local Ferrari dealer in it's place.

I just put in a Blaupunkt Los Angeles MP74 with iPod controller in my 348 this weekend. Took about an hour to make the swap from the 13 year old Sony head. This setup is undetectable from inside the car and the ipod can simply be stashed away since it is controlled from the head unit. The Blaupunkt gives you 9 playlists of 99 songs each. Plenty of content and it works well.

That Blaupunkt unit sounds like the way to go. I think I will be updating the 348 this summer with that setup (and a small 50W amp).
