How about some contemporary shots of the McQueen Lusso when it made its appearance at the Greenwich Concours in 2007 on the way to be auctioned off for $2.2 million by Christie's at Pebble Beach?

Ive had these, and bunch of others, for a while and never remember what site I got them from.
Are they from a magazine shoot or article or something?

 

I really miss that car!!..................... I have Steve's last special ordered Porsche(1976 930 Turbo Carrera) now, but it's not quite the same as the Lusso!! Mike

 

Did a google search, found Mr Claxtons site. Thanks very much for the tip, he has some amazing photos. Looks like he knew just about everybody! Im 29 so its all new to me.

 

When Steve was filming the Thomas Crown Affair in Massachusetts, he was driving a yellow 275GTS. I remember it particularly, as we almost traded paint on Apple Street in Essex. I thought that was his. No?

 

Universal kudos to you, Mike, on the restoration of that car!

 

I believe that it actually was a NART Spider, not his, painted yellow from its original dark red, something like rosso bordeaux or rosso nearco as on the cover of Road & Track? Isn't that same car, still yellow, now owned by Laurence Auriema in CT? I have pictures on the computer at home.

 

The NART Spider McQueen drove in the Thomas Crown Affair is #09437, the very first NART of ten Spiders, and one of two which bodied in alloy. It was originally Giallo Solare when driven by Denise McCluggage and Pinky Rollo at 1967 Sebring. Then for the movie, it was painted Chevrolet Honduran Red (i.e. ostensibly so that it would show up better on film).

The NART Spider McQueen personally owned for a time is #10453, the sixth NART Spider.

So the yellow car that almost sideswiped my XKE was the Thomas Crown movie car BEFORE it was painted maroon? If so, they must have painted it in Boston on short notice, as I know he drove around the North Shore for a while with it yellow. I can't imagine why he would be there if they weren't shooting.

Born Nocciola, McQueen had it repainted red by Junior. Unfortunately later (1980) CUT into a Spider, silvergrey.
