One of the all-time greatest players ever to serve as a captain. He did a lot for Detroit, and played his entire career here, which cannot be said about most players nowadays.

His leadership will be missed. It was time, though.

Another hockey great down. Man...pretty soon, this league is going to be completely unrecognizeable. Hat's off to Stevie Y, though. A great hockey player, to say that least.

It is a sad day but I am glad he retired while still being a productive player. He was the 2nd best Red Wing in the playoffs this year. I think what I will miss most about him is his class. He was such a great leader and it was always about the team. He changed his game from being one of the best offensive centers in the game to a more defensive center in order to help the team get better. He will go down as one of the greatest all around hockey players ever to play the game.

You gotta know that his leadership will be put to use somewhere else in the Illitch empire.

Awesome player. But he wasn't able to play 100% last season.

Horrid team? Are you kidding me?

    Defense:
Nick Lidstrom is arguabley the best defenceman in the league. Matt Schneider and Chris Chelios are top notch as well.

    Offence:
Then there is Shanahan, one of the best snipers in the league. Datsyuk and Zetterberg are up and coming superstars. Draper is a hard worker, and Lang has his moments.

The only thing the Wings lack is a goalie who can perform in the playoffs. How you come to calling them a horrid team is completely beyond me. In case you forgot, they finished 1st overall.

seeing as kizdan is from Texas, he may have some hard feeling about them, and as a Canadiens, Leafs, and AVS!!! fan...I do aswell :p
though Yzerman, despite playing for the Wings!!!, was a great player and an even better person, a true role model aswell :)
