Stewards of the Malaysian Grand Prix have confiscated parts of the Toro Rosso car following Spyker's protest that the car is illegal, Speed TV reports. Spyker made a protest against the team for supposedly using parts that were designed by Red Bull Racing.

Toro Rosso's technical director Giorgio Ascanelli, who has just been signed by the team, was seen handing over car parts to track officials in the Sepang paddock.

It would seem that Spyker's continued protest against Super Aguri and Toro Rosso over the customer car debate is having the desired effect as official action seems to have started. However, it is unlikely that any kind of ruling will be made in Malaysia.

While I don't disagree with their complaint, making STR slower won't make their car any faster.

    :)

Great point! That is what I thought last year when others complained about Renault's mass damper. Everyone should copy good ideas, not ban them :)

Haha, while I agree with this I don't think that can apply to an entire car.

I don't think there will be any teams stepping up to copy an STR car.

I have to side with Spyker on this one... they are spending vast sums of money to do not-very-well in F1, and then another team comes in and mooches off the teat of their sugar daddies and suddenly are competitive.

It's not really what F1 is all about. If they want to make F1 that, then they can put it in the rules (and they have) but for now, everyone is giving it their all, except some broke the rules and were given cars much faster than they were capable of constructing themselves.

The current edition of RACER has a good article about TR and Scott Speed in it. They openly admit that the new TR was designed by Adrian Newey, who of course also designed the Red Bull.

The loophole (as Berger calls it) is, that Newey doesn't work for Red Bull, but for a 3rd company that designs the cars. Therefore whatever he produces for TR is not directly coming from Red Bull.

Smells like a big pile of Red Bull**** to me. :)

So in essence I agree with Spyker. However the whole debate is a mood point as next year all of this would be perfectly legal anyway.

PS: Anybody remember how the TR was controversial last year at the same time? Yup, they were the only ones with a V10 and people speculated they might get an advantage out of it. They sure did...ahem.

PPS: Anybody remember how Minardi (aka TR) was controversial at the Melbourne GP when Stoddart last run it? Somehow it doesn't seem to matter whether these guys cheat or not. They're always dead last.

Agreed. Stakes are enormous in the sport, and it's up to the teams to look out for their own interests.
