I have a 458 with sticky parts in mint condition. Any suggestions as to a coating or wipe on that would help preserve them ??? Thanks, Ed :)

    Hello Ed,

    Please see this link: http://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/technical-q-sponsored-algar-ferrari/520454-understanding-ferraris-sticky-interiors-technical-guide.html

My buddy bought a 458 last year, one I found and negotiated for him. He asked me "Is this car going to have the sticky problem?" To be honest, I lied and told him no as he would not have bought the car.

Now, before you think I'm a bad friend, I've since come clean with him (no pun intended) but he also knows I will refinish his interior when the time comes as he is one of my best friends.

To answer your question, nothing will preserve the soft touch coating, but you can do things to reduce the acceleration:

    1) Don't use chemicals on the coating. Use a very soft micro fiber cloth and warm water (warm, not hot) to gently clean as needed. If you have a stain on the coating, use a very mild soap - nothing more. Don't rub hard.

    2) Keep the car out of direct sun and prevent the car from getting hot inside.

That is really about all you can do.

When the inevitable comes, we will be here to help you :)

Ed, we have a nice handy Care Sheet on our website for instructions after the parts have been cleaned up.

I have a 1999 360 and I found that gently (as if cleaning a wound) rubbing lysol cleaning wipes (I think they had the degreaser) took off the sticky coating and left a satin black finish. The down side is it took off any white markings (directional arrows or text), but the surface itself was no longer sticky but nice and smooth. I did this on the door handle cups, door handles, control switches, defroster vents, steering wheel shroud, window control buttons and surround, climate dials and their setting indicators, mirror control and the plate that surrounds the mirror control buttons/flasher and they are all sticky free and look great.

Geez, sure is nice to see two competing sponsors playing well together.

BTW, I have no personal knowledge of the quality of service provided by either company, but can tell you that as to quality of person, Robbie @ SNM is top rate. Met him probably 10 years ago and was impressed then. He's done a super job growing his company.

i have heard great things about Robbie, and have direct dealings with Dave. I am restoring the interior on my Diablo and Dave spent a long time discussion options with me, and even went as far as fedexing me a few samples to aid in the decision making processes. Great guy, very helpful, and would recommending dealing with Dave without reservation.

I've never met either, but have corresponded with both.

I can say that both are great guys.
