I am attacking the sticky problem on my 456M. The switches with lettering or icons I wanted to save have been sent to StickyNoMore but I decided to do the other pieces myself. All has been fine until the seat controls. I expected the slide buttons to snap off...apparently they do not. So my question...Can they be removed and, if so, how?

I opened the back of the control unit to gain access to screws that might be holding the sliders but found only a circuit board firmly held in place with 4 tabs and 8 hot glue connectors. Access denied.

I have spoken with my usual mechanic, an interior shop, StickyNoMore and assorted others. Hopefully someone here knows the method.

    Thanks.

    Keith

IIRC, they will pop out with some gentle leverage on both ends of each button but I think it's a damned if you damned if you don't sort of thing as the plastic is of course old and brittle by now and you don't want to chance breaking that NLA seat switch. Perhaps try some isopropyl (sp?) alcohol on the buttons first before attempting removal?

By the way, did the entire switch assembly just pop out of the side of your seat or was cushion disassembly required?

+1 word of caution... I believe someone tried to remove the button at some point during my 456 GT’s life (prior to my ownership). The result? A missing button cover, I presume due to the brittle retaining clips for the cover breaking off. The switch and seat adjustments work perfectly fine but it must be done with the remaining stub as opposed to the nice cover.

    Best of luck!

It did not pop out but came out without disassembling the seat. The little metal clip on the end needs to be pulled back. It can be reached with a screw driver between the seat cushion and the hard side. Image Unavailable, Please Login

Thank you! I need to get mine out to repair the bottom button as it's broken off as well but I think I can fix it as long as I can get the switch assembly on the bench.

You might want to consider sticky Rx for the refinish on these as Dave has ability to laser etch the graphics. Better than new when finished. He doing a bunch for me now...

Thanks for the replies and input. I wanted to do as much of this as I could so only the switches were sent out. I did everything else. Some markings were lost, like the arrows on the seat controls; to me this was acceptable. The finish was Rust-Oleum textured paint with a clear matte top coat.

Flat black. I used the textured because it matched some of the original parts best and I liked the look and feel. The top coat was for consistent sheen and additional durability.

    Would't a semi-gloss or semi-flat black be more accurate?

No. OEM coatings are very low gloss level. They are measured based on a 60 degree angle and are typically in the 2-4 range. I'm speaking of professional coating such as the OEM coating (yes, even though they fail, they are professional) and what we use at Sticky RX.

BBQ black has stood up for more than a decade on my 360 and has a great look.
