There seem to be the same topics come up every few months. Many of the folks on here are very gracious and answer the same questions over and over again but how about selecting stickies for the following:

    - F1 vs Manual (OK this one comes up every month)
    - Belt Service Intervals
    - Spider Top Problems
    - Buyers Guide
    - Cat/Header problems

I think it would give the new members a place to go and help keep the forums fun. Did I miss any topics?

Stickys clutter the top of the Forum.

I've been to forums where the entire first page of posts is stickys. Looks like crap, and truly, who reads them anyway?

SEARCH FUNCTION is supposed to be there for this. But it doesn't work either.

I think we just all have to agree that there will be some human element here that always re-starts a topic rather than revisiting it. Truth be told, most times it happens there are enough new members with fresh viewpoints to make it interesting and enough established members to remind noobs that the SEARCH FUNCTION is here for a reason. :D

I hate the sticky threads. Very irritating at the top of categories. And I for one enjoy each and every technical thread. I love timing belt threads, and the old ones just don't have the same bite that a new one does.

A sticky topic that might be good to add to the top of this forum is: "How to Search for Topics in Threads".

A basic explanation of how to use:
    - basic Search option
    - the Advanced Search options
    - Searching within a thread
    - How to use Google Search to search the site

Most of the time, I'll run a google search to check for the topic being previously posted.
For example, here is a google search for "Belt Change Interval" on fchat:

If you click on the link, you can see how to limit the search to the fchat website.

The other good thing about using google, is you don't have to wait 30 seconds to try different search criteria and it doesn't eat up limited resources on Rob Lay's server.

+1 to Toggie. Give the man an answer, feed him for a day. Teach a man how to search, feed him for a lifetime.

How about an "FAQ" or "Common Issues" section where the most helpful threads for solving common problems are placed for everyone to view?

    +1

I'm also not a fan of a bunch of stickies at the top but this might just help.

"Please read before posting!" - A link to this could even be inserted into the "posting" page. Some of my "geek" boards also "warn" you (as a noob) that chances are high your Q has already been asked and to therefore try searching first as you will be *mercilessly* flamed if someone posts a link to the same (already answered) Q.....

    My 02c,
    Cheers
    Ian
PS - Trouble with the above of course is where does it live? - I guess here would be the best bet.....

Yes, to avoid clutter we could have just ONE sticky that has some FAQ's to link to threads with good info on common questions. Then in that same sticky, you could put "If your question is not posted here, please use the search function before starting a new thread."

As a newby to this forum, I would also vote for the FAQ solution. The only down side to that is I love reading all the posts about rehashed subjects (to you, but new to me) and seeing you veterans get your knickers all in a twist about it!

The one veteran who always seems patient and understanding with us novices, is Taz, who I tip my hat to.

Anyway, this is a great site and I always enjoy reading the latest posts.
