Much has been discussed about the remedy of getting rid of the stickiness of various interior parts.

BUT...how do you remove the parts themselves from dash? Do they just pop out? The vent and the surrounding "frame"?

And what about the ash tray and the black console piece in front of it? How do these come off?

I hate to start screwing something up trying to get these things off so I can refinish them.

Vents just pull out. Actually, they pull "up" a bit more than out, but that's all it takes, IIRK.

The ashtray has two little cup inserts. Pull those cups out, you'll see the screws underneath. Remove the screws and pull. You'll need to disconnect the ciggy lighter as you pull.

To remove the other console pieces, first make sure the ashtray is out. Then, remove the screws on the shift gate. Make SURE not to drop them down into the linkage box. Once the gate is removed, you'll see that everything is held in place with pressure from the ashtray.... in other words, it all just lifts out. (Unscrew the gear knob to remove the gate and center fascia. The upright fascia will slide down & out, but you will need to disconnect the cables behind the instruments and HVAC. You might want to label them with masking tape or something, just to be on the safe side.

(Finally, I disconnected my battery before messing with the HVAC thing)

Don't sand the parts smooth. If you use oven cleaner to remove the paint you'll find a nice textrued finish.

I've tried to replicate the finish that Ferrari puts on the parts and the closest found yet is with "rubberized paint" from the hardware store.

That said the replacement cost of these parts isn't bad with the exception of the A/C control and Ricambi America has the solution for that.
