I admire Moss tremendously, but this is two big crashes for him at Laguna Seca. The first was several years ago when he crashed an Aston Martin DBR while trying to execute a banzai pass going into turn 1. Maybe it's time for him to hang it up. After all, he's over 80, has had some severe injuries, and I'd hate to see something truly tragic happen to him.

I wonder if he'll be driving at Goodwood Revival next month.

Does anybody know who owns the Scarab?

he just bought that car for $1.1mm. he bought the car at a recent auction and had bid as a "phone bidder" to my knowledge.

Not as bad as it sounds....there's plenty of money there to fix it (!), and it isn't the original chassis. My understanding is that Collier has the original chassis, but it was burned in a garage fire and can't be used for racing.

That Scarab was in really bad shape when they brought it off the track. I saw it briefly when I went to use the restroom and get some water. It was brought to our area where we eat, party, sleep and was covered up right away. I saw some of the aftermath from the car that hit it as well. No where near as bad, but a mess. I also saw the Trans-Am cars when they were put into impound. Very sad to see this happen, but they are fixable and the drivers are okay.

While I'm glad no one was injured, I do think it's time to consider what to do about Mr. Moss. As legendary as he is, I question the wisdom of permitting him on-track, too. Time is not kind.

The second owner of that car is a neighbor of ours... very cool to hear stories about it's early race history from the guy who drove it! Sad to see the car was damaged though.

From what I read, Moss had an 'off' after a wheel touched grass, but he did not hit any other cars, or even the barriers.

It was a second car that came off the track at the same spot and hit the RS61, causing the damage to both cars, and there was no damage caused by any fault of Moss.

I'm not saying that it may not be wise to hang up the driving gloves, but some of the responses in this thread make it sound more like an egregious error on Moss' part than it may actually have been.

Still sad... always sad when lovingly shaped metal is bent in unloving ways... (but at least no injuries).

Moss spun and was out of the way when the Lotus spun at exactly the same spot and hit him off the track. Really bad luck! I took this photo after watching it happen.

He's been off a few times at Goodwood Revival, but nothing serious that I can recall. His career-ending crash was at Goodwood, of course.

The amount of cars will be reduced for next years reunion. There were too many wrecks at this event and they don't want to see this happen to these high value cars.

As relieved as I am to hear the Sir. Moss is doing well, and was unharmed during the shunt, the image of that poor mangled Porsche makes me very sad in my pants.

Maybe some of the fathers here will understand the feeling, but I just wanted to run over and hug that poor car, if a machine could cry, I am sure that it was weeping.

Have you ever seen a (little) kid racing BMX, or carts, take a fall, and instead of getting back up and getting back into the race, sits and wails? How often will you see a father run onto the track to try and help?

I can imagine that if the RS61 was capable of displaying emotions, it would be bawling its eyes out at being removed from the race by another car.

If the Porsche had not been hit, Sir. Moss would have able to get it back on the track.

I can not speak for everyone, but for myself. I am the kind of person who finds a little human personality in machines. Not all machines, but a few.

I can tell if a car is happy, angry, ill, or just having a tantrum.
(my last classic VW had anger management issues, and a penchant for pranks)

The first thing I saw in the picture of the accident was a dejected, sad, and upset little Porsche.

Or maybe its just me being disheartened at the sight of a damaged classic.
