Stock, Girodisc, or Stoptech Rotors?

    I think I am going to put new rotors on the car. I currently have stock but they are cracking around the drilled holes and they are pretty worn so time to replace.

    I like the look of the drilled better than the slotted. I also like the drilled & slotted that Girodisc makes but they don't show them for the 360. Yep, very unscientific; even a little ridiculous.

    Except for the stock (heavy), I have no idea if either is significantly lighter than the others. No, I don't want to spend the money for a big brake kit right now.

    Any thoughts on what way to go?

    I prefer the stoptech system since I upgrade my system with a 380 mm front kit and it is fantastic. On the other hand there is a add here of guy selling a complete Girodisc set of rotors with pads and lines front and rear.

    Thanks Dave. I dropped him an email.

    I don't track too much so it isn't really a problem for me to have drilled; just a preference thing I guess. The hats on the Girodisc look nicer than the Stoptech but the Stoptech tells a good story about air flow. Hard to get a read on what is really best.

    I had replaced my oem rotors to Girodisc. I have no problem and its alot lighter than oem.

    I know this is a rotor conversation but if anyone is looking for a Stoptech front kit $3395, with this you get free 2 piece rear rotors. Same kit ingpr has on his car so he is a good reference point.

    Deal should last for the next month or so.

    Otherwise if you need new stoptech front and rear rotors send me a pm and I can work on a quote.

    Insane stop power compared to stock performance. Also it gives the car a brutal look specially when you fit a 19" wheels on it.

    I have small cracking around the drill holes, nothing to worry about in my case. If it is minor don't worry. I believe that there are wear marks on the OEM rotors, prob best to get it checked out because if they don't need to be changed why bother. I looked at Girodisc just in case I needed to change, liked the idea that the hat can be reused, ie once you have them installed when the rotor is worn you put a new rotor on the hat, and is so much cheaper than replacing the entire rotor.

    just on the rotor side I have had perfect success with the Girodisc for 355 Challenge, all race miles.

    But of course...quickly....

    rotors come:
    1 solid usually oem
    2 solid slotted sometimes oem better for heat capacity and trackdays or heavy use
    3 solid drilled worst of all worlds due to cracking and reduced heat capacity. in the old days when pads outgassed drilling helpped. that is old technology but look cool.
    4 solid but drilled and slotted a compromise on all fronts.
    5 2 piece "hat and ring" in solid, slotted, drilled and drilled slotted. same issues as above. 2 piece helps to control some heat to the bearings. look cool. somtimes lighter. somtimes cheaper replacement rings, about 3-5 ring changes per set of hat hardware manufactuer dependant. 2 piece rotors usually try to copy real floating rotors used in racing. 2 piece is better for track work than all solid rotors.
    6 2 piece "hat and ring full floating"in solid, slotted, drilled and drilled slotted. floating calipers have about 0.20" of wobble between the hat and rotor accomplished by the hardware and often a bellville washer that allows the slop. Floating is for the rigors of racing. they make noise on the street and are not street comfortable because of the noise. If you want maximize brake capability on the track you want floating 2 piece slotted rotors. This rearely means the best choice on street because max street use usually does not mean repeat brake use at threshold over and over again.

    what you have to do is decide the use and the look you want and balance the qualities of each vs. price.

    girodisc and stoptech are good products. I would put either on my street 550 but just happen to race on stoptech full floating trophy rotors and calipers. ST's race connection is known in the race circles. Recently they developed the SCCA T1 corvette bigbrake kit on my racecar. I found them to make awesome well thought out product.
