Last night my father was filling his tires with air in Union in his 2011 Blue Maser Coupe with tan interior, NJ plate T65BHL, and a middle age African American individual sat inside his car started it up and drove away. If you or anyone you know happens to see the vehicle on the streets please call the police immediately. Unfortunately there is no tracking device in the car and much to my amazement Maserati roadside assistance can not locate the car (like they can for BMW/Mercedes/etc). Most importantly my father is unharmed.

Sorry to hear about the car! But as long as your father is safe and sound, thats all that matters! The car can be replaced. I wouldnt doubt if the car is already in a shipping container heading to Albania

Wow, glad he's ok. If it was a simple joy ride, you'll know in 48 hours - if it was taken for parts or export, she's long gone.

Sorry to hear about this. I was getting used to not seeing "stolen car" posts but this one broke the "silence". Are these cars equipped to simply "drop it in "D" and drive away or is it a paddle style drivetrain? I'm just wondering how likely it is that a joy rider would be familar enough with the setup versus a professional.

Absolutely thrilled to hear your Dad was unharmed.

Good news car was retrieved in Jersey City. Unfortunately they were unable to catch the individuals but police are still going through the security videos at the gas station as his face was caught on camera.

Minimal damage to the car thankfully. The headlight was punched in so the mounts are broken, one wheel was curbed pretty badly, the inside smells of pot and there are ashes and sunflower seeds all over the place. The thief put about 500 miles on the vehicle (My father had 1100 miles before so I guess now it's properly broken in =P).

Again thankfully no one was harmed and for the most part the vehicle was retrieved with minimal damage. Please just be safe with your vehicles and don't leave yourself, your family, or your car vulnerable to attack.

As an aside has anyone installed a tracking device (ie LoJack in their vehicles)?

Glad everything turned out OK. I hope they catch those ****** bags. I've been looking into connect2car I saw it reviewed on TV once but didn't really pay it much mind becuase I thought it would be insanely pricey. It's actually pretty resonable.. http://www.connect2car.com/

I have a similar device in my Mercedes - http://www.dronemobile.com/ - very reasonable, and has full tracking plus lock/unlock/remote start.

I guess it's better the police "retrieved" the car instead of located with quick communication to the owner. I think anyone would of been willing to let it stay there and wait for Mr.500 to take another joyride.

*Edit* So NJ's budget is slim these days, would of been nice for the police to make headlines with the title "Free ride to to Prison"

500 miles on the car? That is one risky thief! Glad to hear you got the car back.
