got this email a few days ago and thought i'd post. I have a picture of the car but f-chat won't let me post it for whatever reason so if someone offers ill send it to you
m3R never heard of such thing, hope he gets the car back in one piece and the Father gets his 10th year in targa with the m3r
i suppose the best way to describe the car then would be an e36 equivalent to an e46 CSL if that makes it any better
It's probably all those wings and wheels that got it stolen in the first place. They probably thought it was a kitted up 3 series. Sad to hear it none the less, Lane Cove of all places. Was it stolen from a garage, or of the street?
Ok champ, heres a pic just for you. A BMW M3R driven by Ray Julian, whoever he is? In the 2003 Targa Tasmania. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Half way between woolworths and heaven. Btw check your spelling of my name. Now, here's a pic of what I think is the car that has gone AWOL. EDIT: Correct Jeh? Image Unavailable, Please Login
I'll keep an eye out for E36 M3R parts floating about. Hope they find the car intact. Thats a shame they didnt flogg a normal M3, there on every corner, there are only 15 M3R's in oz i think. I think they also had AP racing calipers from factory?
IIRC, Race Brakes in Melbourne were commissioned to supply the discs and calipers for them. Atleast, that's what Howard from RB had told me.
How much could you buy one of these for? How many were made? Performance stats? Changes to the standard M3?
The M3R was a BMW Australia "hot rod" ala the RX7 SP that Horsley built up here. The RX-7 SP did very, very well in the local GTP series (which morphed into the Nation's Cup series). Unfortunately the M3R didn't even make it off the starting blocks. It was deemed to be uncompetitive and never officially raced as far as I can recall. BMW Australia had plans for building 20 or so examples at $160k+ and you had to hold a CAMS C3 license before they would sell you one. Not surprisingly, the M3R didn't reach sales expectations. I don't remember the exact list of mods; but it wasn't super modified. It had a semi- stripped interior (no back seat), body kit, different wheels and upgraded brakes. I think drivetrain mods were limited to a race clutch and exhaust mods. They only came in white, so all 10 or so cars are in that colour. Do a google on it if you want the in's and out's.
There were 15 made. As 360C mentions, the mods were fairly limited. They did Bathurst at least one year finishing but not winning any laurels. As a comparison their Eastern Creek time was 1.44.35 whereas the Porsche GT3 did 1.34.20
