Just got four Ferrari logo valve covers put on last Sunday. Today I noticed they are gone. The only place I went was Beverly Hills were I was parked on the streets at Olympic and Beverly Drive.
Can't believe they only lasted one day! Is this a common situation? Should I consider the locking style valve caps as a replacement?

PS: Which one of you guys took them?

    Steve,

Did you have the caps that require a tool to remove or the regular ones? I've got the ferrari logo caps that you need a special tool to remove. Granted any one can buy one for a few dollars. Here are mine. They also come in red. At least they didn't do anything else to your car.

The ones I had were not the locking type, but the same appearance as yours.
For the new ones, I will get the locking ones. Hope I don't lose the little key.
Do you remember where you got them and how much?

I too thought some local kids could just do a grab and run.

I think you had the locking type. It would have come with a tool that has an opening which acts as a wrench for the caps. This "tool" would have the ferrari logo on it.

I didnt know what it is for at first .... I thought it was some keychain or something... but it is used to make the caps VERY TIGHT such that a normal person could not unscrew with their fingers. You can use anything to make the caps tight, they just supply something to make it easy

I think that when it comes to valve caps, the replacement cost is so little compared to the $ spent to repair the DAMAGE done by a p!ssed off little punk because the valve caps were locked!!! If valve stem caps will make the little fu----s happy, they can go for it - - and they probably won't take the additional time to key my car. Like fast red 355 said "they'll do a grab and run". Much better.:)

Without the little tool, the valve caps just spin. The kit comes with 4 valve caps and 2 removal tools. I keep one in the car and one at home. I bought them at Auto Gallery for about $30. I will be at AG on Friday for a quick install of a new part. Do you want me to pick you up a set if they're in stock? If so, what color?

Jon, thanks for the offer. A friend of mine is in the process of buying a set for me, so I'm covered for now. He will be seeing me Sat. night and doesn't want to be empty handed. He offerred to bring me my favorite Vodka, but my wife overheard that and nixed this idea. Hence, valve caps.

    Hi Gang,

My suggestion, is to stop worrying about locking valve stem caps. By the way, did anyone think about the weight of that cap, inasmuch as it really does affect wheel balance. If it will save your car, let them have the damn caps!!!

    Cheers, Hank

While "cute", they're a 1 point deduction (I think) at a concours. Just keep the boring correct ones and no one will think twice of taking them.

Good thought. Stolen valve caps are a bit of an acid test i.e. if you're leaving your car in a place for it to happen maybe you should rethink where you leave your car as something worse could happen.......... I know, I know it's just a car.

Hank - you make a good point, and I did think of that aspect when I bought a locking set of valve stem caps...however, after "losing" 8 caps in just a couple of days, I got fed up and decided not to subsidize their little hobby any longer.

Does that mean parking on the GREEN is out of the question too? Ask Mike550 about that one. **** can happen anywhere.

Yeah, they valve caps look great, but if you look around your neighborhood you might see them on the local kids bicycles- they love them. I went through probably 4 sets before I decided it was too much a pain.

Maybe I will try the "locking" type.

Don't think that's really a good analogy especially when the prime suspect is an F-chatter and it's a sore subject. But hey if my point isn't well taken park your car wherever you want.

Oh, but I do agree with your point. I will certainly park in the safest place possible. It gives me a better chance. The purpose of my example was simply to point out that there are no guarantees.

    Cheers, Hank

I had 4 silver ones on my car. Some young boys took them from my beast while it was park at my work. But I had them for two weeks before they were gone.

    Bummer!
