I use a $12 zinc anode in my radiator fill tank.

One (important) thing is that a Zinc sacrificial anode can only protect brass or iron -- if you want to try to protect Aluminum, it has to be a Magnesium sacrificial anode.

Thanks for that. I just ordered a magnesium anode ( http://www.aquaticeco.com/index.cfm/fuseaction/product.detail/iid/11446/cid/2974 ) so that I can properly protect my aluminum radiators. I hadn't even thought to check the Noble Scale to see if Zinc would still work on Aluminum, so your tip is appreciated.

I really like that little Zinc thingy, I use zinc plugs in my motor on my boat and they disappear in about 3 to 4 months, but when I pulled the heat exchanger sometime back it was nice and clean inside after 11 years of salt water use. I was wondering why you don't see sacrificial zincs on cars, now maybe 91tr hit it on the nail and zinc wont work in cars...good question, otherwsie I am buying one of those tomorrow.

Good anti-freezes include corrosion inhibitors that really do stop pitting and corrosion on water pumps, radiators and so on.

If you don't want to run anti-freeze you can get the inhibitors separately.
