THose of you with swimming pools that must be closed for the winter months, what do you do with the chlorine during the time that the pool is closed. I mistakenly have 3 containers of chlorine shocking chemicals (all are powder, two have never been opened) and I'm not sure what to do with them. I clearly do not want them in the basement or in my garage. But, I don't know for sure how to store them outside.

Have to presume that they should not be near metals like the air conditioning compressor because, if the chlorine did leak it is highly corrosive isn't it?

    Powder chemicals or liquid chems?
If the chems are sealed and unopened, they should be ok to sit through the winter.
Liquid chems - They might weaken somewhat over the winter due to freezing and thawing cycles. Not a big deal, just use them 1st next season. Also, check on them periodically during the winter for leaks.
Powder chems - Should be fine if in a sealed container. Maybe put a few bags of silica in the containers to absorb moisture.

AND ABOVE ALL ELSE : KEEP ANY ACID CHEMS FAR AWAY FROM ANY CHLORINE CHEMS!! If they mix together, the fumes are toxic.

It's not a rule of thumb to keep certain chlorines together either, Sodiumhypochloride(powder chlorine) and trichlorotriotrenazione(pool tablets) when mixed together will explode!
