It has happened a few times now:

    - sat at lights or roundabout, while waiting for the lights to change I've engaged neutral with the foot on the brake and then try and get first gear and nothing happens. After about 10 seconds (feels like a lifetime with cars behind) it will go into gear after desperate pulling the paddles and stamping on the brake.

Only happened a few times now (and nothing for the last couple of months) but does it when the car is still warming up about 5 minutes into the drive).

Any idea what this could be - clutch on its way out (but no slip) ?

When it is working normally you can feel the car/gearbox shudder a bit when you do engage 1st gear - is this normal for an F1 box (think my old 360 used to do that but can't remember) ?

    Thanks

Rick- At rest, I can feel and hear the F1 unit engage 1st gear after being in neutral, so that is normal.

You will have to ask a pro on the rest. I suppose it could be possible your brake switch is not working 100% correctly and the system is not seeing a brakes applied signal with light brake pressure applied at a stand-still. If that happens, you cannot select a gear while at rest. As you get wound up and press harder, could be the system sees the brake applied signal and you can select 1st.

When I first got my 2004 575M, with approximately the same generation of F1, I fell back on my old manual transmission habits. Sitting at a stoplight on a flat section of street, I selected neutral and took my foot off the brake. The car would not select a gear without the brake being depressed. That sounds like the same thing you are experiencing.
