I was wondering if anyone might know the correct procedure for resetting the CEL on a CS. I had to do this a few times on my 2002 360...if I remember correctly, you needed to turn off the battery and wait about 15 minutes, then turn the battery back-on and run through a start-up procedure where you turned on the ignition, completely depressed the throttle pedal, slowly released it, turned the car on/off a couple times, then started it for good. I've been told that with the Stradale it should just be a matter of reconnecting the battery and starting the car, but I was hoping to confirm this.

Thanks in advance for any help.

i don't know the proper procerdure. but i'm curious why you want to do this? i know that usually a CEL is a "non-problem" but it's possibloe that it could indicate a real problem. do you know it's a non-problem?

how are you enjoying your stradale? is the CEL anything to do with the high flow cats?

Absolutely lovin' the car and the cats :) . Actually, I'm looking to reset the CEL to see if it may be a fluke related to the Hyper Flows. I switched to a set of stainless steel plugs in the extra O2 sensor holes and the light came on after that. I've put about 150 trouble free miles on the car since the cats were installed...so I'm just looking to rule that out. I figured I'd reset the light to see if it might be fuel cap related, etc...if it comes on again I'll have to see about checking the code.

keep us posted. i hope it's not related to the high flow cats. they claimed their cats would not cause CEL issues, right?

Yes...Hyper-Flow guaranteed me that there shouldn't be any CEL problems with them. When I asked about that prior to purchasing, they also mentioned that they'd be willing to work with me if any problems did eventually emerge...so I'm confident they'd stand behind that.

..but my CS suffered with engine light and some very bizarre behavior when my partner was driving to meet me a month back. Garage told her, when en-route (I was flying) to disengage the battery, wait 10minutes, follow what sounds a similar procedure to the one you described (although not quite as elaborate by the sound of it) and then continue the journey. The engine light remained intermittent for the next 3-4 journeys so I took it back. They reset the car (sorry to sound vague but that is all the info I received) and imparted just one possible cause – the fuel cap. ‘tighten the fuel cap until you can turn it no more – then tighten just a fraction beyond’ was the only advice they suggested, and its been fine ever since. Actually, it’s been a dream ever since…..actually, it’s been better than that…..

Thanks for the info. I filled the tank a few days before the light first came on, so I'm wondering if that might be the problem. I plan to make sure the cap is tight, then reset the CEL to see if that was the cause.

Couple of weeks ago, a CS in our group had the CEL warning. Checking the caps revealed that the gas cap wasn't on tight. Light turned off after that. We did try the main power shutoff first to reset the system but I don't think it did anything. The culprit was the loose gas cap.

That might be the best place to start...it would save me the hassle of dealing with the battery, etc. Did the light go off right away, or did it take a few "cycles" to clear?

Started the car after tightening the gas cap and the CEL went away like normal.
