Here are some pictures of before and after the Tubi NGT installation. There is no longer a cutout switch and the build up is linear but is just as loud. Interestingly, at idle, it is not as loud as one would think given how small the muffler is. Also the tips stick out an inch more than stock and is more polished. Nice! The Tubi is tiny compared to the stock muffler (see picture) and sounds much more like an F-car at idle all the way to around 4-5k and then the Stradale wail takes over all the way to redline...very nice. Seat of the pants feel...about the same. Will have to get the car dyno'd maybe at the next dyno event. Too lazy to make a one off trip to do it, besides, a few hundred or so miles, it would break in nicely. Albert
Good to know that you can hear me coming. I won't have to call ahead anymore...;-) Did a small video with it revving bet 2-3 k but it's too large to post here..;-(
Yes, it has some kind of heat shield on it. On the Challenge cars (has the same exhaust) there is an extra oil cooler mounted towards the top of the muffler - must be to shield the heat for this. Thomas can confirm.
Albert, After being passed by you several times (you know I planned that right?) and then being behind you for the rest of the weekend on the North Cascade trip I have to say that I can't imagine it sounding much better than it already did!! I couldn't wait for you to get a spot to pass just so I could hear you grab a couple gears and go!! Look forward to hearing the new sound now!! John
Funny story when I picked up the car... Josh at FOS brought out the car to the front of the shop. Taking great care not to scrape the front bumper, he eased it onto the walkway so that I could drive off at an angle. Within a couple of minutes of coming back into the shop, the local police was in front writing up a parking violation. Everyone went back out to try to convince the officer that I was picking up the car and it was too low etc but no luck - he still issues the ticket. Doug at FOS graciously took said not to worry and he'll take care of the ticket. So not only did it rained that day, it was rush hour and the car got it's first non moving violation. How funny! A big thanks to FOS for the great installation job, for not scraping the front end and yeah - for taking care of the violation.
Great story, Albert! It could have been worse, the cop could have also written you up for a missing front plate!
What are they just waiting in front of FoS to site any little thing? I was pulled over right in front of FoS last week also. I was in the intersection waiting for on-coming traffic so I could take a left turn...........well one of the on-coming cars runs a red causing me to have to wait just a little longer before I can make the turn. I'm pulled over for "running a red light"?????? At the window he immediately tells me that he won't give me any trouble today.............but to "slow down"..............funny thing is I was only going at most 15 miles an hour! WTF!! Great that FoS took care of the ticket.
Kuzi; I've got news for you - it's just you, man. MI hassles you and now Seattle! At first, I thought it was the car, but you were in two different cars, right? Of course, I'm just jealous because I would've gotten a ticket each time... ;-}
In this case sounds like the cop slept on the couch the night before if ya know what I mean. In Kuzi's incident the cop just wanted a closer look at the CS.
I've been lucky so far! But I have my old stand by in the name of Jeannie Mucklestone! By the way, I haven't heard your NGT yet Albert! Bring her out to play sometime. I'll be back in town sunday..........hmmmmmmmm
It should sound the same at high rpms, I'll count on you to let me know if it's better since it sounds different inside the cabin. See you on the next event
Just when I was feeling good about my 360...you go and do this. Looks great...cant wait to hear the new tunes!!!!
don't think the heat shield is specifically for the oil cooler - one benefit you get with the CS is that the muffler is by-passed when the valves are open - so a lot of heat goes straight out the pipes - the CH exhaust is in the exhaust flow all the time - my exhaust looks a little bit different now since one of the Challenge Campaigns FoS performed was to strengthen the clamps you see left/right - the end pipes tend to fall of during a race how is the noise in the carbine with the new exhaust - when I measured it it was 85db on the highway - not good long-term someone took a video of the CH going through 9 in Portland - I wonder if your exhaust makes the same noise driving away from a stationary listener for some reason I love that sound http://home.comcast.net/~trackdayphotos/ferraripack.mpg
The noise in the cabin is louder than stock but not annoying. I like it better although I have not measured it. I'll get the sound level meter out and do some measurements to see if this is > 85dB at 60 mph on the hwy. It sounds very similar to your video. Too bad, it's such a crappy day to go out and play. Hopefully, we'll have good weather soon.
