Having just rcvd an emissions waiver, I am now considering straight pipes vs Hyperflow. Any negatives to straight pipes?

I've got Hyper Flow test pipes with a Tubi. Sounds incredible.

Since it is a Federal law that all emissions systems must remain intact, how did you get a waiver to circumvent the Feds?

The hp is proven to be the same, so why would you want use test pipes instead of Cats? Is it just to save money?

    Just asking.....

In MD you can geta waiver depending on your circumstance. Ferrari sit too low to go on the dyno--hence waiver...

You are correct Sir! The emissions person simply took a look at the car and gave me a waiver. If noise is the only draw back then I'm sold.

It is my understanding that "straight pipes" can emit a fuel smell and that was the reason I didn't go with them. I installed the hyper-flow/tubi setup and I'm thrilled w/ it.

355s run so lean you don't notice it, I surely don't with my straight pipes

I would rather smell it out the back of the car, then have a stock cat catch fire...But I knoe what you mean, my 328 was very strong smelling with the test pipe on it..

hyper flows are the best. I have them on my 360 and my buddy Tony had them on his 355. They are the best out there. Way better than straight pipes

Hyperflows - legal, sound great, no fuel smell.

Straight pipes - flames out exhaust, cheap.

I have Hyperflows on my 348 spider - personally wouldn't run test pipes on an open car as you smell of fuel after a run, plus as above I pass smog like a champ here in Kalifornia.

    Cheers

    Straight pipes = BEST

ANY Cats = Not as good, whether they are Hyperflows or stock.

I had straight pipes on the 348 and have hyperflows on the TR. I did not find the pipes loud nor did I find that they emitted any foul smell. The hyper flows on the TR with the x-ost muffler sound fantastic and the car is completely legal.

I think the cat fire thing is a bit overblown...you would have to lose one bank to get the raw fuel into the cat...and that would be a VERY noticeable loss of power, and if you ignore that, then get a "slow down" light. The cats don't just spontaneously combust... ;-)

I just switched my cats to the Hyperflow cats with the stock exhaust. It changed the sound a little, but not a lot. You would probably notice it more with a Tubi or some other aftermarket exhaust.

I put Hyperflow cats on my '99 F355 and added a Capristo Level 1 exhaust. Definitely a bit louder with the Hyperflows but not obscenely so.

Hyper-Flows and X-OSt on Rachel. Passing smog in CA is no problem while the sound is beautiful and the performance is stunning.

Yeah, thats the way I would do it. Why go screaming down your neigborhood if HP is not being added :(?? Quiet HP should be the top priority IMO. These cars sound awesome enough w/ stock exhaust:

Unless there is power to be gained why make the additional noise??

I run the test pipes with the Tubi. No SMELL at all. Best of both worlds, not only to be seen in a Ferrari and no doubt to be heard as well. Totally awesome.
