    Hello Gentlemen -

Looking to buy a late model Diablo ( 1998 -2001 ) or Murcielago, am wondering about upkeep and problems? The nearest Lamborghini Dealer is over one hour away, and I just hate dealing with Dealers. And one off mechanics are risky. My question, are these problem cars and if something breaks, what do you do? Tow the car in the nearest Dealer? Also, what year Diablo is best with less problems?

Is the Murcielago a better vehicle in terms of less problems?

I'm putting out feelers on what to expect before I dive head first in to the Lamborghini World.

    Thanks in Advance :)

Have been going hard after Diablo roadsters the last several months. Thought my search was over last week.....but thats a story for another day.

In every case for a car I'm seriously interested in, I've asked for service history. Most histories I've seen has a single service over $20k. Most often its a clutch combined with other stuff.

Now, I'm going only on gut feel, but I would think a Murci would have lower service costs because its newer, and influenced by Audi Engineering. But I've found that Murci owners are much more secretive so you won't get really good information.

I still want a Diablo, but there are times (like right now), that it would be easier to get a Murci roadster. Of course, I don't want an e-gear which complicates matters. But this past Spring, there were 4 Murci roadster 6 speeds for sale at one time.

You won't get anywhere near a consensus on this. The early 2wd models have alot of fans, who want something closer to the Countach feel. The last year 6.0 has a large following. The special editions are rare and pricey. I'm one of those who thinks a proper weekender MUST be a top down (or off) car. The later SVs with the huge stripe package are outrageous.

The OP asked which year Diablos would have the least problems. I would speculate that there would be little difference. They are all hand-made old world supercars with typical Italian foibles.

If you can't stomach a couple of 5 figure repair bills, I'll tell you....the LP550 Gallardo is one hell of a car.

I am leaning towards a white Roadster Diablo ... rear wheel drive only. 1998 to 1999. In 2000 they made none and 2001 models is the 6.0. However, it's about the best deal I can find so I'm open to anything. Red and black Diablos are so common. I wish they made more whites, greys, purples, etc.

Thanks for commenting - I appreciate any advice I can get :)

The Millennium Diablo Roadster was released/sold during calendar year 2000. Although technically a MY99 based on VIN.

Negative. A few factory 2wd roadsters were produced and ended up in places like Australia.

I had a 98 Diablo SV for 2 years, never had 1 problem, great car , it did start to leak a little oil just before i sold it , i learned it was the cam seals from the new owner who fixed it himself. it was a big mistake to sell it ., forgot to mention it was my only car and daily driver.
