after a long drive on sunday I took out my 550 to have it cleaned yesterday. after 15/20 minutes drive i had to stop at a red light when all of a sudden the car started to smell.

it was the same kind of smell that you get if you spray wheel cleaner on your wheels and it vaporizes on the hot break disks.

the temperature gauges didn't show any strange signes nor did the car feel different. I turned off the engine let it cool down and drove home again. the smell never came back.

Did any off you expreience something like this before? Can it be, that it was due to the brand new straight pipes I fittet?

    thank you for your help

Just had that exact thing happen. I thought it was electrical in nature as well...it had THAT kind of burning electrical smell. However, upon further examination it was the dreaded coolant hoses under the intake manifold slowly leaking and coolant running down onto the exhaust header. The car never ran hot, etc., same kind of symptoms.

Since this was the second time the hoses under the manifold had failed within 10K miles, I elected not to go back with a Ferrari supplied hoses. I had them replaced with the silicone hoses from Scuderia Rampante Innovations. Top quality stuff, and no more untimely expensive trips under the intake manifold.

    Marc,

Our straight pipes are loaded with grease during the mandrel bending process to avoid tooling slip. If it was with in 50 miles or so of fitting our pipes I would say that is what your smelling.

    Will check both..

@Bradan... The straight pipes make me go absolutely Gaga... Fantastic Mod! Now I have to do something with my TVR as it sounds like a Blender next to the 550 ;-)
