Was watching a local car on eBay (Acura NSX) just for grins... VERY strange bid pattern. How would you explain this?

Same bidder from $18K to $23K, and then someone sniped at $23100.
    Legit?

That's how sniping works... if his "hidden bid" was higher than the next highest bidders
HIGHEST bid, he wins by the bid increment unless someone then does it to him in return.

Looks totally normal bidding to me. I use BIDNIP.com and highly recommend them. Cost $0.25 per successful snipe and saved me many $.

No affiliation except being a satisfied customer.

I am not questioning the SNIPE...rather the large number of bids from the guy before him with no one else bidding.

POSSIBLY a shill... but I suspect it's just an eBay noob who keeps second guessing himself
rather than having the balls to step up to what he REALLY would pay. Having done thousands
of eBay deals, that's a very common pattern to see. Usually if there is a shill, he won't
appear until near the end, and make BIG jumps if it's a popular item.

    Just my 2 cents.... NO... 4 cents... NO 12.4 cents... NO WAIT ... 25.7 cents... :D :D

Isn't that just an artifact of how eBay works? I.e., 9***3 bids $22,999 on May 01, but since the previous high bid by 3***t was only $18,000, 9***3's bid is initially only shown as $18,101. Subsequently, others enter bids above the $18,101 value, but not more than 9***3's high bid, so 9***3's (shown) bid amount is increased to be above the latest bidder's effort and he remains the high bidder until r***i's bid exceeds the $22,999 -- yes/no?

^Yes. This is a very common site on ebay listings' bid history and absolutely nothing out of the ordinary. It appears that 9***3 put in bid at $23,000 on May 1st. All the other bids after that were lower than his until ultimately r***i bid $23,099.

I see that all the time on ebay.

Usually from someone with low feedback so they havent been using it enough to finaly figure out just bid what your willing to pay at the last second.

I try to bid at the last second or try to snipe if the snipe is free but sometimes I just forget that the item is about to end and I miss it anyway or find I was sniped its funny at times.

Ah. Thanks guys. It just looked fishy to me, but perhaps you are right.. A 23000 Max bid generated the automatic bids in $100 increments.

Thanks. Need to learn the nuances of Flea-Bay

So does the guy who put in all those bids. I used to see people bid like that 8 or 10 years ago, but now most people know there is no need to peck away at the bid like that and most people also know that that bidding early is a bad idea becasue it lets people think about how badly they want the item and peck away at your bid and it's also a bad idae to bid xxxx.99, you want xxx1 or xxxx.01 or something like that because people tend to think in round numbers.
