I had a very strange experience when driving my 2002 360 F1-I was going about 75mph in 5th gear and all of a sudden the car lost power. I tried accelerating and the car simply wouldn't go. It would not increase speed, nor did it lose speed, it would only maintain the current speed. I tried flooring it but could not get any more speed out of it. The RPM's went up but thats it. I dropped to 4th, went back to 5th and even up to 6th-no speed change, just normal RPM changes. The shifting was smooth and normal.
Everything else was normal too-no CEL, normal temps, no warnings, etc.
I pulled off to the side and shut it down. After a couple minutes, I restarted it and everything was back to normal.
What happened? Any suggestions would help. Thanks!

I had a similar experience in a 599 HGTE. The ECU sensed something was wrong and evidently went into 'limp to dealer' mode. Advance and fuel metering was cut back severely. In that case the 'hot catalyst' light also came on for a few seconds. It was all a software glitch and, as in your experience, a shut down and reboot cured it.
