OK, here goes... I've owned my 84 QV for over three years and in that time its proved to be a remarkably reliable car. I replaced the battery about 18 months ago as a cell had gone, but aside from that it's starting following months of winter lay-up has been spot-on.

A couple of weeks ago, I left the car with a mechanic I've used before and Tuesday evening last I collected the car following a belts change, service and MOT. When leaving the garage the ca wouldn't turnover - just the click of the solenoids. They said they'd had a problem starting it that morning. Putting a power pack on it had the starter turning immediately and the car fired-up and I was off. I got home, stopped the car and started it again no problem. I then went for a 30 mile trip to charge the battery and came home and garaged the car. Again, stopping en route I had no problem starting the car again.

This morning I go to the car and it turns over no problem at all, but it will not fire up. There's a smell of fuel so I know that's not the problem. I have an immobioliser fitted that when activated will not allow the starter to turn. Deactiviating the immobilser, the starter turns fine but the engine will not fire.

Is there anything igintion/electrical that could be disturbed whilst changing the belts/servicing that could cause an ignition issue?

sounds like an immobiliser problem or fuel pump solenoid . Happened a couple of times on my 355, symptoms sound very similar, I'm no mechanic tho!

    Hi Steve

Turns out flooded was the cause. I'm not sure how though as I used my time-tried method of starting it - no throttle. The thing just wouldn't fire.

Put a booster battery on it this afternoon and just cranked away - it finally got going. It seems to be running very rich though, so I'm taking it a guy who's well versed in K-Jetronic to give it the once over.

    Regards

    Mark
