Strange noise from my 348 today.

    My car made a strange whine or muted screach twice today on the way home. Came from the engine compartment. Is my timing belt or some other belt doomed to fail? It only lasted less than a second each time and drove fine after that Not sure if I want to even drive it now. Heard too many horror stories. Is there any thing else that would make that noise back there. I have no idea when or if the belts were ever done.

    Sounds like your belts are slipping. They slip when they are wearing out, so I'd say you're getting a lucky warning that they need to be changed. Can't advise if it's timing or alternator, etc, but suffice to say it is most likely a non-toothed belt.

    First off..a timing belt does not slip and make a squeaking noise as your driving. A timing belt failure will result in engine shut down..instanly.

    What you have is an accessory belt slipping. either the A/c belt or the alternator belt. You can access them from under the car once the rock garud has been removed.

    yeah I knew it wasnt the timing belt, but could have been a tension bearing or water pump bearing getting ready to fail. Where is the best place to buy a 30K kit to bring this thing up to date?

    Beyond that have my brake lines showed up yet? I dont trust UPS some times.
