Ok, I have a strange noise coming from the motor. The best way to describe it is that it sounds like a cross between a 'belt chirp' and a 'bearing noise'. It is coming form the uppper part of the motor towards the front side, however, I cannot narrow it down. At first I thought it was my lower drive bearing, but I have had the mechanics stethoscope all over that side of the motor and things sound fine. I've checked my belt covers and they are fine. I've listened with the scope on the cam covers and nothing.

The noise is random and varies in pitch, but does not increase or change with revs. Sometimes I won't hear it for minutes, then I'll hear it a couple times here and there. I'll try to post an audio file the next time its running, but for now does anyone have any ideas where/what to check next. The car is running top notch at the moment. I dont' have the A/C hooked up at all so its not that and my alt belt is snug as it should be.
    Kind of random I know....

Before you get too patient locating the source of the noise, make absolutely sure that it is not one of your tensioner bearings.

The bearings are new. Replaced within the last 500miles. They are functioning properly. I'm 100% sure its not them. :)

Here is a link to a video taken with my Blackberry. You can hear what i'm talking about at 9/18/19/29/37/41 seconds. I ran for 1.5hrs this am. Did a little 'pre-drive' of the route I'm taking some guys on Sunday for a drive. This is the most I've heard the noise. When I started it up later, I only heard it once or twice in several minutes.....strange I tell ya!

sounds like a plug wire grounding to something on the motor to me. very hard to tell in an audio file.

otherwise i would say its in the valve train, specifically the buckets and valve springs, but i will let the experts chime in.

I had a buddy with a BMW who had over $3,000 of warranty covered work done including a valve-train recondition with the problems (slight stumble just coming off load) remaining... It was finally found to be a spark plug wire! This was all at <40k miles. You'd think something so easy would be obvious to rule out but not in this case. Of course my friend got a free valve job!

I have no clue what your tick is- but I hope it's something simply once found- good luck and keep us in the loop.
