OK for you early 308 guys I am tring to figure out what what this strange socket is. So if you look under the Clock/Oil Temp. pod closer to the O temp gage you see this strange socket . The parts catalog calls it "presa corrente" but I don't have a clue to what it does and why its there. Anyone got a clue.

There is an auxillary light that plugs into the socket. It's just a hand held light on a wire. I'm sure it's really handy, I just have never used it. My guess would be that not too many cars still have their little light kit. Mine came in a little black plastic bag. Almost didn't notice it.

It has a magnet in the base so you can attach it anywhere on the car. I grin every time I see it. It doesn't stick anywhere on mine.

Great I got it and I found the light in the bottom of my Glove box. To bad one of the previous owners didn't keep the tool kit. Oh well. Thanks Folks

There is also an adapter that transforms it to a lighter-sized socket so you can plug in a phone or radar detector. BMW motorcycle shops have it because the bikes use that same plug size (for heated vests and whatnot). Don't know if there is an alternative source.
