I find it odd that the prototype clam shell car is on the production line, perhaps it was only for the photo op?

i would love to see the other pic of yours with the espada line. most likely it was a later picture...can you post that pic please??

    warm regards

very interesting, i always thought the x19 line was on the left of the stratos (u can see a few lined up in the back) but it also looks like a 308GT4 queued up in the back?

many thanks for sharing the historic photo

The front clam shell was put on purpose for the picture. It's not a production item as you say.

The early morning of January 1 is quiet in Manila, so it is a good time for a fast spin in the city. Filling up at the station, I snapped a phone photo.

My best wishes to all on the forum. May we continue to enjoy our cars in this New Year.

I believe the 15" wide rims were for the turbo Group 5 cars.

I just found this thread. Those Stratos are so amazing. I remember when I was Young watching the Alitalia cars in the rally, I got hooked to these cars and always loved them. Those cuffin Wheel are also in my head since then.
The nicest rally car ever in my opinion.

Thank you. Yes, the Stratos is quite a delight to have and use, so different in feel from the Dino. When I bought it some 27 years ago, it was not expensive.

I was quite surprised by the quality of the photographs that my phone (a Samsung Note 3) takes. The detail and resolution even in heavily cropped photos are amazing.

The rear wheels are 9x15, the front wheels 8x15, all in magnesium. They were made by Sparwald (Germany), as they were then (ten years ago) and may still be campaigning Stratos. I have an earlier set by Tecnomagnesio. The original ones are still with me also, but corroded quite early on.

The tires are Michelin TB5s, the intermediate rally tire popular in the 70s. Michelin has reissued them. They are very period in appearance. They are identical to the TB15s, but have a more durable compound, better suited to hot climates. The TB5s are road legal, and I believe also the TB15s. Here is the TB5 compared with a Pirelli P7, which is of course also correct for the Stratos.

Udo is not making wheels he's buying them from Nuccio in Italy. Udo is a great guy and very experienced Stratos builder and restorer. He rebuilt my chassis 10 years ago.

I filmed my hill-climb in the Group 4 back in September very shaky though as I used my phone and didn't mount it properly. You can check it out here:

those TB's are fantastic to look at. Pirelli just came back out with there P7 Corsa classic rallye tire . seem like they dont offer one in the stratos size yet. P7 CORSA Classic, Motorsport tyres - Car Tyres, Motorcycle Tyres, Truck Tyres, Motorsport tyres - PIRELLI INTERNATIONAL

Most Stratos being used switched from the TBs to the Pirellis which offer far better performance at the expense of durability.
