Have there been any 400 or 412 been done with a more road rally/track/GTO style build while still staying a comfortable road car? Just looking for inspiration at this point with no firm plans.

I was watching a vid on the singer 911 philosophy and think that it would be interesting to build something similar in the 400/412 format as a personal car in the future. I think the shape would lend itself better to a "resto mod" style build rather than a 456.

I've thought about this too and given the checkbook you can do a lot.
    - caribou engineering did a hot rodded 365GTC so follow their lead for a rebuilt motor.
    - the first level of suspension mods would be the uprated bushings available in the aftermarket, custom coil- over shocks from (Penske, ohlins, etc), heavier sways. Bigger brakes would fit.
Still , it's a heavy, flexy car with a sluggish gearbox. How much would you spend?

That's the issue. I don't think the costs would justify the end result. Anyone that works on ferraris charges around $150 AUD an hour and I could easily seeing the budget blowing out because of labour, sourcing parts and dialing in the build.

    Rough estimate -
Body $15-$20k (brg, subtle flares of the guards, some sort of historic livery underneath the clear coat, some sort of front lip, engine bay etc)
    Suspension $7-8k
    Brakes - $5k
Wheels and tyres $8-$9k (mesh style wheels with michellins)
Interior $10k (retrim in a darker brown, some sort of period specific "bucket" seats)
That is around $50k (I don't have the skill set to do much myself at the level that I want) without touching the engine and gearbox.

Not really sure what you could do to the engine to extract more power while keeping it naturally aspirated as I wouldn't go down the turbo path. The sound would be very nice though with the right exhaust and a few modifications. Could probably use the standard manual gearbox and diff and build another track spec engine while driving the car.

The issue would be with the build is that if anyone gets a part wrong than it doubles the budget instantly and not many people would have the skillset to oversee the entire build. Plus this would take around 1.5 to 2 years to be fully operational.

That's precisely the route I would like to go down with the engine, suspension and brakes.
