There has been a strike at the Ferrari factory. All the workers walked off. I have been hearing mixed informaton as to when they will start working again some say Monday, some say there is no set date as of yet! Has anyone heard more details?

This is a weekly occurance in Italy....

I have not heard it happen at the Ferrari factory, but I'm sure it has....

They strike because it's raining, they strike because it's cold, they strike because they're tall, they strike because they're short.

I noticed this when I was living in Rome 5 years ago.

There were some sporadic 4-8 hour strikes around the end of the year, and then a couple of strikers wound up in the hospital after an altercation last week.

Luca has called for a lowering of the "tone" of things - we'll see.

But plant shut down long term like in US strikes? I don't think that is accurate - nothing in the Italian press that I can find today.

So called "news" of a strike tends to be spread just when someone is being told that their new 430 is going to "be delayed" (read: the seller took your deposit and sold your car to someone with more money...so you sit and wait).

    I'm only half-way kidding.

went to the Lamborgfhini factory in 1986 wanted them to ship a new
hood for my Countach 5000S. At the gate the guard said the factory was "on strike". Great I said we went to local bar for some wine and the locals said "oh strike is in the morning they worki in in the afternoon."

I went back a `few` hours later no problem.

I understand the stike has something to do with Ferrari going public and a change in the union.

Isn't "strike" the Italian word for "weekend"? ;)

From my latin culture and heritage all I can tell you is that strikes, verbal assault, tardiness, etc. are all parts of everyday living, those are some of the things that are still very much alive since the roman empire.

    AH HA!

That explains why we get our car assembled so crappy. They come back either pissed or piss drunk. Because the guy writing the shop had to have been drunk, as well as the "electrician". :D

It's the "metal workers" unions that are striking, and they're organizing 4-hour and 8-hour strikes at factories (automotive and otherwise) all over Italy, including Fiat and Lamborghini.

This has nothing to do with a Ferrari IPO which, in any case, won't be any time soon according to a recent statement from J. Todt.

It's like the Senna manslaughter trial that went on for 10 years....

Some things about that country are A$$ backwards....

The strikes are just a part of it.

I remember that I wanted to go to the Roman Forum one day, guess what... they were on strike!!! :p

Maybe they went on strike because they refused to work on that ugly 559 GTB!
(Just kidding, but just in case I have my flamesuit on) :)

No, but I heard about a new Saab (I think) with a mysterious rattle. After numerous extensive searches, the mechanic found an empty aluminum can hanging by a string inside the lower A pillar/firewall area. Apparently there was just enough room in this roughly vertial tube-shaped hollow area for the can to swing back and forth a bit while the car was moving.
