This video is from almost 2 yrs ago, but Musk is still launching a slew of these satellites. I saw the same thing this morning at 4:30am while walking the dog. Also saw something similar 2 wks ago.

Do I recall that the astronomers are up in arms over the possibilities of increased light pollution due to the "thousands" of satellites proposed to be launched?

They were bright. Each one brighter than the ISS, at least at the time of morning when I observed them.

Why do they need the lights? I'd rather not see them.

Not visible to the naked eye when at operational altitude, but .....

Only bright around sunrise and sunset, normally, which is when the sun illuminates them at a very shallow angle. Should be invisible when in sun shadow.

    Somebody is obviously concerned though.

most typically iridium satellites....can be really annoying when taking photographs, stargazing, astronomy....they don't have lights but three flat antennas that make great reflectors.

We do have fun tracking the ISS however. It's always fun to see and the kids wave to the astronauts. :)
