Last month, I found out that the epoxy fix from prior owner on fuel pump cap failed.
When the shop inspected the car, they said the other cap had a crack in it too, so I ordered 2 new (yellow cap) pumps from EuroSpares.com and got the 2 gaskets too.

I got the car back yesterday, and that smell is still strong.

I'm wondering if they overlooked the gaskets?
Maybe i forgot how rich it runs?
    Left over smell?

Shouldn't smell like gas. At least running rich smells different than just raw gas. I'd do an inspection on your own to make sure no fittings were compromised during the swap and the locking rings are on tight.

I agree with Joe ... raw gas smells different than rich running and even gas that was spilled and dried .. very distinct smells
If you smell rich running odor .. try disconnecting battery for 20 mins or so and then let idle for 10 after you get to temp with no draw ( windows , a/c etc) - sometimes the shops disconnect battery to work on car and then never do the re-learn .. the base map of engine is slightly rich

Thanks. I called the shop and they confirmed that they installed the new gaskets. they told me to run it back down next week if the smell doesnt go away.
If I have time, i'll pull the panels and do a visual inspection.

I had this issue and replaced the fuel pumps. It’s possible you have a crack in the fuel pumps themselves. Another possibility is your rollover valves are shot and need to be replaced. They can give off a strong gas smell when they go bad. Do you have a check engine light? Usually if you get evap codes it’s those valves.

Hopefully it’s not the rollover valves. They can be a fairly labor-intensive fix on Spider cars because the cabriolet top has to be removed to access them. I was quoted around $4500.

    Another possible scenario: (best case)

On my way home yesterday, I stopped to refuel (1st time gassing it up).
I couldn't quite figured when the cap was back on tight. I came home this evening and looked at the mechanism and if I'm correct, I should have popped the cap back on and turned it a 1/4 turn, correct?

I'm hoping that was my only issue.

    Fingers crossed!!!
