    interesting...

"If you can’t afford to buy the real thing then why not knit one. That’s what 22-year-old art student Lauren Porter did. For her university degree show, Lauren decided to knit a life-size Ferrari.

Mainly modelled on an F355, it took her 10 months and 12 miles of yarn to put the Ferrari together. Lauren got friends and family to help knit approximately 240 red woollen squares that she then assembled and strapped over a metal frame in the shape of the car.

The bright-red Ferrari got instant attention when Lauren exhibited it at her degree show. What followed was an even better exposure to the media and potential buyers. She hasn’t been able to find a buyer yet but managed to get the attention of gallery owner Sarah Myerscough who promptly agreed to show the Ferrari at her gallery."

I saw that on the news about a month ago (my wife Tivo'd it for me). This lady sure put a lot of time into the project. It would be a nice conversation piece.

While staying in London this year I lived some 100m from where this was being displayed, then it was also at London Auto Show '06. And I must say - while the idea was interesting the execution wasn't all too good. I appreciate the time and hard work put in that project, but the outcome wasn't all to sensational. Mainly because of the frame under the Ferrari cover - it wasn't visible but it looked as if it was all bent and crooked. That of course in turn led to the same look being carried on to the whole 'car'.

Is this a new story or just an "old yarn"?
