    Saw a documentary about Jellyfish just the other night, so, I'm suddenly an expert!

    Wouldn't want to get stung by a Man'o'War...

    Urine is effective on all but Box Jelly and Irukandji [and their like] - male urine is preferable, as it is more sterile.

    Vinegar wash is the way to go on any species, however.

    There are other steps involved, this page mentions your region, and treatments for different types of stings - what to do, how to do it, and why;

    Making sure that you wash out the poison is key. Just stay in the salt water. Otherwise, I understand that vodka is good. Apply externally and internally.

    I was surfing one day and watched a small pacific jellyfish (12" round, white with blue lines) swim away from my board. I thought 'that's cool' (I use to see them often).........About three minutes later, my leg started stinging like hell! It lasted a coulple of hours. I could'nt think what it would be like to get nailed by a man-o war...If you lived to tell about it!

    I liked to surf and was always freaked out doing so in Hawaii. Between jellyfish, stone fish, spikey urchines and doing a head plant on coral, I went to Scuba!

    Last year in St. Jean de Cap Ferrat (Riviera) i got stung by a jellyfish. Being a cold water person, i had't the slightest idea about what to do, but a local guy approached and, after making some signs -I don't speak French, neither did he speak English- started rubbing wet sand in the sting. It stopped hurting after a few seconds and didn't leave marks.

    Felt weird, but worked fine.

    The sand apparently abrades the unfired nematocysts.

    I live at the beach and get stung alot when in the ocean, especially in August when the water gets warm and drives the jellyfish in the shallows...
    We found that baby powder works the best.

    Really? That sucks. Like some people spend tons of time at the beach, my parents always took me to the lake as a kid. My parents were big skiiers, and they along with several friends all had boats and got together every weekend. Probably why I like lakes so much.
